The Power of Priorities Dial in your priorities to have a balanced life. Hello, Happy New Year! Now

[Image] The Power of Priorities Dial in your priorities to have a balanced life. Hello, Happy New Year! Now is the time when most of us are reflecting on the previous year and making plans for the upcoming one. But I wanted to acknowledge something that is often overlooked in our busy daily lives. The Holiday / New Year period is one where we spend more time with our loved ones. And I hope you stood up to your end of the bargain. Because I get it. We work so hard that we end up feeling bad for taking time off. That sinking feeling that you’re falling behind while you’re eating dinner with your family starts to creep in… If you strongly relate to this, you especially need to take a breather and analyze why you feel this way. That’s exactly what I had to do when 4 years after starting LifeHack, I developed chronic back pain. For 4 years I was pulling 12-18 hour days. My work was all-encompassing and had taken over every waking moment of my life. At first, I ignored my back pain and kept working… Until it became so bad I couldn’t even carry my son. This heartbreaking situation forced me to analyze the situation I had got myself into. Now, over a decade later, the readership of LifeHack has increased by the millions, I’ve built a rock-solid core team and most importantly, I’m able to spend guilt-free time with my family. So what changed? I got my priorities straight. Anything that wasn’t essential, was no longer important. This meant, no more 12 hour days, no more stressing about work while spending time with my family, and no longer neglecting my health. So HOW exactly can you dial in your priorities effectively and reclaim your time in order to live a balanced life? Let me break it down in 3 simple steps: 1. Outline your North Star Target Your North Star is your primary life goal or destination you want to reach. Allow your North Star to guide you through the day, keeping your plans and actions aligned. Assigning yourself a purpose makes it easier to analyze whether your actions are focused toward achieving your end goal or whether they’re taking you further away from it. 2. Set Initiatives that map the route to your North Star This is truly the make or break step. When setting Initiative (Milestones), ask yourself the following, “How does this contribute to my North Star?” Each initiative breaks down the process of achieving our North Star into bite size chunks, illuminating your path as you progress. 3. Use Focus Blocks to complete daily actions Focus Blocks consist of two simple elements: - Which action(s) to perform - How much time to allocate for each action Focus Blocks are designed for impact. Perform the daily action that brings you closer to completing your Initiatives. It’s not about doing more; it’s about doing less with a clear purpose. And all of these steps are outlined in our Time Flow System. If you’re serious about reclaiming your time and dominating your schedule in 2024….
