I need to be honest with you here... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

I need to be honest with you here... ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌   I won’t lie . Having a couple of days off has been great. I’ve been able to spend some time with the kids. Watch Christmas movies with my wife. And get a well-deserved rest. I knew I needed it after how the year ended... The company I work at was going through a big expansion project. We were growing like crazy. And that required a lot of work from me and my team. For nearly a month, we were working 24/7 There were thousands of administrative tasks to take care of. There was so much work ... That I didn’t even have the time to help my wife with Christmas preparations until the very last few days... Each day I had stacks of paper waiting for me on my desk. Thousands of decisions to be made. And hundreds of emails crowding my inbox. And at some point between all of that... I lost all my motivation. I got carried away by the routine. Usually, as Lifehack’s Chief Content Artitetch, I’d have to come up with new ideas to make my company grow. Here, I just had to keep on repeating the same things. Every. Single. Day. I was on the verge of burning out. There were not a lot of meaningful things I could get done. Plus, my work-life balance was on the line. I wasn’t seeing the kids as much as I’d like to... I wasn’t getting enough rest. Just plain simple grind. In the middle of all of that... There was only one thing that kept me standing. And if you’re going through something similar... I think it will help you as well. And that is to hold on to your mission statement. In corporate jargon, a mission statement is a sentence that captures your company’s purpose. It shows your company’s values. The guidelines your company operates in. It’s like a north star for your team. Whenever they feel lost... They can just look at the company’s mission. That way, they’ll know what actions to take every time a difficult situation arises. For example: Some of the most memorable ones for companies are... JetBlue’s mission is "to inspire humanity — both in the air and on the ground.” Tesla’s mission is “To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” And just as companies need a mission. You need one as well... That way, whenever you’re faced with a crossroads in life and need to make a decision... You’ll know what to do. If you want to write your own, start by asking yourself these questions... What do I want to do in this world? What is it that really gets me going? What is it that wakes me up early on Monday morning? What do I want to do for my community? Once you answer those... Use them as a guideline to write your own. For you, it might not be to help the world transition to sustainable energy... However, it could be to inspire positive change through teaching. Or to positively impact the lives of every person you meet. Or even to create opportunities for today’s youth. And you know what’s the best part of having a mission statement? That will give you focus. You won’t feel lost anymore. Or that everything you’re doing is in vain. You won’t spend your energy on things that don’t get you closer to your goals. Instead, you’ll take every action with your mission in mind. And whenever you feel like you don’t want to continue... You can just look at your mission. And you’ll get the motivation you need to keep moving forward. Because you know you’re a part of something greater. Always forward, Simon P.S. We’ve all been taught that the only way to get results in life is through hard work. And that’s not true.
