[👋 ](=) Hi! If you’re at work, how is your day so far? Are you enjoying it or struggling to get going? While you may love your evenings and weekends, there’s a good chance you might not be so keen on about your workweek. (It’s often called the daily grind!). Interestingly, less than 5% of the population state that they enjoy both their work and free time. Most people say they don’t find their work time a positive thing, while some people enjoy their work - but don’t like their free time! Given that most of us spend around 40 hours a week working, it’s crucial that we don’t find this time negative, draining or painful. And, It certainly shouldn’t just be a means to an end. Conversely, we shouldn’t allow our work to dictate our lives. We should always have the time and energy for our friends, family and hobbies, etc. So is there a magic pill for a happy work-life balance? Yes. And the pill has just one word on it… ALIGNMENT. That’s right. When it comes to work and free time, we should be looking to align these two things, rather than dividing them into separate black and white zones. For example, imagine you have an office job that dulls your brain and dims your soul. Despite loathing the job, you put up with it to pay the bills and to allow yourself to enjoy some of the pleasures of life (going out with friends, traveling, etc.). While on the surface this may sound reasonable, you’ll actually be creating a deep divide in your life: Work is bad - free time is good. It would be far better to find a job that you would be happy doing. This might be at the same company but in a different role, or it could be something completely new. When you find a job that is satisfying, you’ll immediately break the barrier between work and leisure. Your work will be fun and rewarding (at least most of the time), and your leisure time will be less critical to you. You’ll still enjoy your free time, but you won’t crave it anymore. Even if you’re unable to move jobs right now, you can still benefit from a change in perspective. The secret is to understand that both work and leisure time will always have their fair share of negatives and positives. But, by keeping your perspective on the positive aspects - you’ll be able to find pleasure and enjoyment in both your career and leisure activities. And by doing this, you’ll break free from the work-life division trap that most people find themselves stuck in. Work-life balance really is bogus. Strive instead for work-life alignment. This is the authentic and tried-and-tested path to happiness and success. Want to dive deeper into this topic? Then click through to read my article: [The Mystery of Work-Life Balance](=) Cheers!
