LibraryThing: State of the Thing
Dear {NAME},
Welcome to the May 2018 State of the Thing. This month: we've got a group read coming up soon, and you can vote on the book (plus, we'll be watching the film adaptation); GDPR is coming into effect; come say "hi" if you're going to BEA next week.
If you'd rather receive a plain-text version, [edit your email preferences](. You can also [read it online](. Our newsletter archive lives [here](.
You can like LibraryThing on [Facebook]( and follow [@LibraryThing]( on Twitter for up-to-the-minute site news and updates.

LibraryThing and GDPR
Have you heard about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)? It's the EU's new privacy regulations, taking effect Friday, May 25. It's why your inbox is filled with emails from companies announcing changes to their privacy policies.
LibraryThing is pledging to abide by the GDPR. This will involve a number of changes:
- LibraryThing has a new, much longer Privacy Policy, Community Rules, and Terms of Service. Go ahead and read it here.
- EU members will have to visit LibraryThing and re-confirm they want to get emails from us.
- We're finishing up a new "Privacy Center," centralizing all our privacy and account controls.

BookExpo 2018
Tim and Abby will be representing LibraryThing at BookExpo next week. We won't have a booth, but they'll be hanging out at Bowker's booth—#2649. Stop by and say "hi" or check out a demo if you're around.
Did You Know?
A new section we added last month to highlight features and details folks might have missed on LibraryThing!
[LibraryThing + Litsy.]( Have you tried the bookish mobile platform [Litsy](), yet? LibraryThing acquired Litsy a few months ago, and we think it brings in some fun features (like photos and quotes) that you won't find on the LibraryThing app.
[LibraryThing Local.]( You can use LibraryThing to find bookstores, libraries, and book-related events near you. Just click the "Local" tab at the top of any page on LibraryThing. You can even filter your Local results by venue type (bookstore, library, even Little Free Library!).
[Vous et nul autre.]( See the books that are unique to you on LibraryThing. The "Vous et nul autre" feature in the Stats/Memes page allows you to see books that you have that you share with no one, one other member, and so on.
Talk of the Thing
[Books that make us laugh.]( What books make you laugh out loud? See others' suggestions and add yours on [Talk](.
[First sentences.]( Share the first sentence of the book you're currently reading on [Talk](. Do any of these make you want to read the books they're from?
Free Books: Early Reviewers
are not currently signed up for [LibraryThing's Early Reviewers]( program. You are missing out!
Early Reviewers offers free books to members—about 100 titles a month! Since 2007, we've given out over 160,000 books. The catch? Publishers want your honest review. How you review a book won't help or hurt your chances of winning books in the future, but not reviewing your winning will.
[» Sign up for Early Reviewers](
The May batch of [Early Reviewers]( books features 3,950 copies of 117 different titles. The deadline to request a free book is Monday, May 28th at 6pm, Eastern. Look for the June batch around the 4th.
