OTA Updates on Jordan Love , Calvin Ridley , and many more ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

OTA Updates on Jordan Love (inconsistent), Calvin Ridley (un-coverable), and many more  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ May 25, 2023 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Together With: Stathead [Run Your Pool](  Packers [Jordan Love] Packers OTAs: Jordan Love inconsistent, OLB Lukas Van Ness shines Details: Love completed only 3-of-12 passes to open practice, but came on strong late with 3 touchdown throws during a red zone drill. He finished the competitive period [6-of-16]( (37.5%). - The touchdowns were caught by Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure. Challenge: Coach Matt LaFleur said he intentionally challenged Love by calling plays on the fly, rather than running scripted playbook installations — which could explain the uneven performance. Van Ness: Bill Huber (Packer Central) [named]( rookie Lukas Van Ness the “player of the day.” The first-rounder reportedly displayed impressive instincts throughout practice. - Huber: “At one point, Van Ness drove the left tackle into the lap of the quarterback. At another point, he wasn’t fooled at all on a bootleg and was right in Danny Etling’s face. On a running play, the 6-foot-5 Van Ness ducked underneath the blocker and blew up a handoff.” Image: @Packers Jaguars [Calvin Ridley] Jaguars OTAs: Calvin Ridley turns heads, TE Brenton Strange embraces opportunity Ridley: John Oehser (Jaguars.com) [wrote]( that Ridley displayed “the high-level route-running, speed and ability to get open" that once had him trending toward being one of the league's top receivers. - Ridley, who hasn't appeared in an NFL game since October 2021, got “open – wide open – pretty routinely.” More Praise: Another reporter — John Shipley (Jaguar Report) — wrote that Ridley “simply moves [differently]( than any other wide receiver on the field. The pacing and tempo in his routes, the quickness of his feet, and his ability to change up his approach to routes even when he isn't getting the ball all stand out.” Strange: With Evan Engram (contract dispute) not in attendance, rookie second-round tight end Brenton Strange impressed the coaching staff with his versatility as pass-catcher and run-blocker. Profile: Strange caught 32 passes for 362 yards and 5 touchdowns at Penn State in 2022. Before the draft, Lance Zierlein wrote of Strange, “H-back option with a compact frame and a nice blend of athleticism and toughness to fuel his game. Strange gets after it as a lead blocker, in-line or in space… In a draft filled with high-quality tight end talent, Strange could fly under the radar as a [future starter]( with the potential to operate as a hybrid, three-down talent.” Image: @Jaguars Commanders [Howell] Commanders OTAs: Sam Howell impressive, Young and Sweat absent Details: Howell, per Zach Selby (Commanders.com), only had [four]( incompletions combined in both 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills — and three of them were drops. - Highlights included a 30-year shot to Curtis Samuel and a tight window completion to Terry McLaurin. Brissett: Backup Jacoby Brissett threw 3 touchdowns during 7-on-7 drills, but was intercepted by cornerback Tariq Casto-Fields. No Shows: Defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat are not attending the voluntary workouts. Both are entering the final year of their rookie contracts. Interesting: The Athletic’s Ben Standig thinks the Commanders would have [traded]( Young before the draft — had they found a team willing to give up a first-round pick. Image: @Commanders Titans [Ryan Tannehill] Titans OTAs: Ryan Tannehill sharp, Will Levis struggles with accuracy Details: Tannehill completed [eight]( consecutive throws to open practice. The highlight, per team reporter Jim Wyatt, was a “beautiful pass across the middle to tight end Chig Okonkwo.” - Tannehill also showed strong chemistry with Treylon Burks, who caught at least three passes during the session. Levis: Levis, the team’s second-round pick, displayed impressive arm strength but “struggled to find [consistent]( touch on intermediate and underneath throws.” More Titans News: - S Kevin Byard and CB Kristian Fulton are not attending the voluntary practices — presumably over contract-related issues. - Rookie third-round RB Tyjae Spears has been a standout and seems to be in line for a significant offensive role. Image: Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire Dolphins [Devon Achane] Dolphins OTAs: RB Devon Achane and WR Erik Ezukanma standout Details: Alain Poupart (All Dolphins) described Achane as the team’s most [active]( offensive player during practice. The rookie third-rounder was especially impressive in the passing game. - Multiple reporters were in [awe]( of Achane’s speed. - The 5-9, 188-pounder was the fastest offensive player (4.32) in the 2023 draft class. Role: Achane is expected to play running back, receiver, and returner as a rookie. It’s possible he leads all Dolphins’ running backs in touches and scrimmage yards. Ezukanma: 2022 fourth-rounder Erik Ezukanma garnered praise for his speed and route running. Omar Kelly (All Dolphins) [wrote]( that the second-year receiver was “moving like an NFL starter.” WR Depth: Ezukanma is competing against Braxton Berrios and Cedrick Wilson Jr. for the third receiver spot. Image: Doug Murray/Icon Sportswire More News - [Patriots]( forced to forfeit two voluntary OTAs for violation of offseason rules - [Steelers]( signed OLB Markus Golden - [Jets]( hosting P Matt Araiza for a visit Together with Stathead Question of the Day Which team averaged the fewest yards per offensive play last season? - Colts - Cardinals - Texans - Rams Sign up for a monthly subscription and get your first month free, or use “[LEGIT20](” to save $20 off one year of Stathead Football.
