NFL Schedule observations + Vikings likely to move on from Dalvin Cook  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ May 12, 2022 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Together With: Stathead [Run Your Pool](  Week 1 [Season Opener] Week 1 Primetime Schedule: DET at KC, DAL at NYG, and BUF at NYJ Opener: The season will open on September 7, with the Chiefs hosting the upstart Lions. The game will feature two of the league’s top offenses from last season. - Chiefs: 1st in scoring (29.2 points per game), 1st in yards (413.6 per game) - Lions: 5th in scoring (26.6 points per game), 4th in yards (380.0 per game) Big Test: A win for the Lions would signal legitimate contender status in the NFC. A blowout, which seems plausible, would be another embarrassment for the franchise. SNF: The Giants will host the Cowboys in the Sunday Night Football opener on September 10. Dallas has won 16 of 20 matchups against New York since 2013. - A loss would not bode well for Mike McCarthy, who will enter the season on a hot seat. MNF: Josh Allen will visit Aaron Rodgers in the Monday Night Football Opener. It’s worth noting that the Jets — with Zach Wilson at quarterback — won a home game against the Bills last season. Image: @NFL Thanksgiving [Tony Pollard] Thanksgiving Schedule: GB at DET, WAS at DAL, and SF at SEA Game 1: The Lions will host the Packers to kick off the Thanksgiving slate. Detroit has won the last three games in the series. Game 2: The Commanders will visit the Commanders in the mid-afternoon game. - In his first and only career start, Sam Howell led Washington to a victory over Dallas last season (Week 18). Game 3: Seattle will host San Francisco in the night game. The 49ers have won three straight over the Seahawks — including a dominant 41-23 victory in the postseason. Next Day: The first-ever Black Friday game will see the Dolphins visit the Jets. The game figures to have major AFC East implications. Image: Andrew Dieb/Icon Sportswire Schedule Notes [Tom Brady] More Schedule Notes Brady + Pats: The Patriots will honor Tom Brady during their home opener against the Eagles in Week 1. Rematch: The Chiefs will host the Eagles in a Super Bowl LVII rematch on Monday, November 20. Christmas: The Christmas slate features Raiders at Chiefs (1 p.m. ET), Giants at Eagles (4:30 p.m. ET), and Ravens at 49ers (8:15 p.m. ET). Yikes: Seven of the Giants’ first eleven games are on the road. Primetime: The Chiefs, Chargers, Bills, and Cowboys are tied for the most primetime games with six. No Primetime: The Texans, Falcons, Cardinals, and Colts will not appear in any primetime games. Rodgers: Aaron Rodgers and the Jets will be featured in five primetime games — Week 1 vs. Bills (MNF), Week 4 vs. Chiefs (SNF), Week 9 vs. Chargers (MNF), Week 10 at Raiders (SNF), and Week 17 at Browns (TNF). Streak Over: The Steelers will host the 49ers in their first home opener since 2014. Peacock: The Saturday night matchup between the Bills and Chargers in Week 17 will require a Peacock subscription for viewing. [View the full schedule here]( Image: @Patriots Cook [Dalvin Cook] Vikings likely to move on from Dalvin Cook Details: ESPN’s Dianna Russini is reporting that the Vikings appear likely to [move on]( from Cook. - Last week, Adam Schefter said that Cook’s future in Minnesota is “in question.” Context: The Vikings don’t want to pay Cook his full 2023 salary of $10.4 million. If the 4x Pro Bowler does not take a pay cut, the team is expected to trade or release him. - Minnesota ranks last in the NFL in cap space ($1.3 million). Savings: A post-June 1 release or trade would save the Vikings $11 million in cap space, while spreading out dead cap charges across 2023 and 2024. A pre-June 1 release or trade would save the team $7.9 million. Landing Spots: The Dolphins will [consider]( signing Cook if he gets released. There’s also speculation (not reporting) linking the 27-year-old to the Rams, Cowboys, and Chiefs. Image: Peter Joneleit/Icon Sportswire Robinson [Bijan Robinson] Bijan Robinson favored to win OROY Details: Every major sportsbook has Robinson, who the Falcons selected eighth overall, [favored]( to take home Offensive Rookie of the Year. - DraftKings has Robinson (+300) ahead of Bryce Young (+475), CJ Stroud (+700), Anthony Richardson (+650), and Jahmyr Gibbs (+900). Interesting: According to [research]( from ESPN fantasy expert Mike Clay, the last six running backs selected in the top ten (Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott, Todd Gurley, Trent Richardson, Leonard Fournette, and Christian McCaffrey) have averaged 296 touches, 1,510 total yards, and 12 touchdowns as rookies. - None of the six finished with below 1,000 total yards and seven TDs. Wow: Field Yates, another ESPN fantasy expert, writes that he would be “stunned if Robinson doesn't take on one of the largest workloads in the NFL.” Note that Josh Jacobs led the league with 393 touches in 2022. Image: Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire Seahawks [Jaxon Smith-Njigba] Teams think the Seahawks may have the NFL’s best trio of WRs Details: Officials from multiple teams have told ESPN’s Jeremey Fowler that the Seahawks’ trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and first-round rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba is as good as any in the league. Breakdown... - Metcalf in 2022: 90 catches for 1,048 yards and 6 touchdowns. - Lockett in 2022: 84 catches for 1,033 yards and 9 touchdowns. - Smith-Njigba in 2021: 95 catches for 1,606 yards, and 9 touchdowns (was injured for most of 2022). Impact: Opposing defenses will be faced with the less-than-ideal choice of scheming around Seattle’s passing game or running game — which features two talented backs in Ken Walker IV and rookie second-rounder Zach Charbonnett. Debate: Other teams with a “top receiver trio” claim include the Bengals (Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd), Vikings (Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, KJ Osburn), and Raiders (Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Hunter Renfrow).
