Lamar & Tua out for the wild-card round? + interesting Tom Brady speculation  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Jan 12, 2023 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Together With: Stathead [Stathead](  Ravens [Lamar Jackson] Lamar Jackson is unlikely to play in wild-card round Details: Lamar Jackson missed his 16th consecutive practice on Wednesday and is trending in the wrong direction for Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Bengals. - Jackson has a PCL sprain that is taking longer than expected to recover. Impact: Since Jackson’s injury, the Ravens have gone 2-3 and are averaging only 12.5 points per game. The Bengals are averaging 26.1 points per game. Huntley: The Ravens hope Tyler Huntley will be available to start if Jackson can’t play. The 24-year-old backup missed last week with shoulder tendinitis and did [not]( throw during practice on Wednesday. - Huntley is averaging 117.8 passing yards, 0.5 touchdowns, and 0.5 interceptions across four starts this season (2-2 record). Brown: If Huntley can’t play, Anthony Brown will start. The undrafted rookie committed three turnovers (2 interceptions, 1 fumble) in the Ravens’ loss to the Bengals this past Sunday. Odds: Cincinnati is an 8-point favorite. Image: Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire Dolphins [Skylar Thompson] Dolphins rule out Tua Tagovailoa, preparing to start Skylar Thompson Details: Tagovailoa remains in concussion protocol and will not be available for Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Bills. - Tagovailoa has been in the protocol since Dec. 26. Skylar: McDaniel indicated that Skylar Thompson is being [prepared]( to start, as top backup Teddy Bridgewater is still dealing with a finger injury (dislocated pinky). - Bridgewater could start if he shows improvement between now and Sunday. Struggles: Thompson — a rookie seventh-rounder — has completed just 60-of-105 pass attempts (57.1%) for 534 yards, 1 touchdown, and 3 interceptions in seven game appearances (two starts) this season (1-1 record). Odds: The Bills are a 13-point favorite. Image: Peter Joneleit/Icon Sportswire Goff [Jared Goff] Lions GM backs Jared Goff Details: Lions GM Brad Holmes [told]( reporters that Goff has “proven to everybody that he is the starting quarterback for us.” - HC Dan Campbell backed Goff after the Lions’ Week 18 victory over the Packers. Great Season: Goff completed 65.1% of his passes for 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions in 2022. He led the Lions to a solid 9-8 record. - The 28-year-old has not thrown an interception on his last 324 pass attempts, which is the fifth-longest streak in NFL history. Long-Term: It looks like the Lions will let Goff play out his contract, which runs through the 2024 season. Though another strong year could earn him an extension. Other Needs: Sticking with Goff allows the Lions to pursue other needs on the roster — such as cornerback, defensive tackle, tight end, and safety. Detroit will enter the 2023 offseason with a nice chunk of cap space and two first round picks (No. 6 and No. 18). Image: Steven King/Icon Sportswire Breer [Brady] Albert Breer: Dolphins could ‘get very interesting’ for Tom Brady in the offseason Details: If Brady holds off on retirement and opts for free agency, Breer thinks the Dolphins could emerge as the favorite to sign him. - Breer sees Brady and the Dolphins as a [possible match]( for five reasons… 1.) Concern over Tua Tagovailoa, 2.) Geography, 3.) Existing Relationships, 4.) Coaching, and 5.) Roster. Tua: Breer thinks the Dolphins may be hesitant to move forward with Tagovailoa, who has suffered three concussions this season. Pivoting to Brady would not make the team any less competitive. Geography: Playing in Miami would allow Brady to stay close to two of his kids — who live nearby. Relationships: According to Breer, Brady has existing relationships with the Dolphins’ management and ownership. - Stephen Ross wanted to sign Brady last year. Coaching: Breer thinks Brady would enjoy working with Mike McDaniel, who is regarded as one the game’s brightest offensive minds. Brady also has a strong link to WRs coach Wes Welker. Roster: The Dolphins can offer Brady an opportunity to play with the league’s most dangerous WR duo (Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle), an elite left tackle (Terron Armstead), and a talented defense. Raiders: While the Dolphins may be the most ideal fit, Breer has confirmed that the Raiders are [seriously]( considering the 7x Super Bowl champ. Image: Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire Jets [Mike LaFleur] Jets and OC Mike LaFleur agree to part ways Details: The Jets offense ranked 27th in yards (312.3 per game) and 31st in points (17.8 per game) under LaFleur, who lasted two seasons as offensive coordinator. - The 36-year-old will land on his feet, as he already has [interest]( from other teams. Wilson: LaFleur’s inability to develop Zach Wilson into a competent football player has a lot to do with the parting. Building Blocks: The team’s next hire will have some great young talent to work with, most notably WR Garrett Wilson, RB Breece Hall, and RG Alija Vera-Tucker. Though finding a reliable quarterback will be priority No. 1. - Jimmy Garoppolo (via free agency) and Derek Carr (via trade) are two possible options. Candidates: Former Texans and Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak has been floated as a replacement, though he’d have to be coaxed out of retirement. Other potential options — [per]( Albert Breer — include Eagles QBs coach Brian Johnson, Eagles pass game coordinator Kevin Patullo, Dolphins QBs coach Darrell Bevell, and former Texans OC Pep Hamilton. Image: Joshua Sarner/Icon Sportswire Patriots [Belichick] Tom Curran: Changes expected for Patriots after Kraft-Belichick meeting Details: Curran (NBC Sports Boston) is reporting that Belichick agreed to make [changes]( to the offensive coaching staff during the meeting. - New England — with former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia serving as offensive playcaller — ranked 26th in yards and 17th in points this season. Kingsbury: According to Albert Breer, Belichick has looked into [hiring]( Kliff Kingsbury as the Patriots’ next offensive coordinator. - Though Breer thinks Kingsbury, who is still owed $30 million from the Cardinals, could take a year away from the game. - Kingsbury was drafted by Belichick in 2003 and briefly served as a backup to Tom Brady. Other Options: Alabama OC Bill O’Brien, Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson, and Browns passing game coordinator Chad O’Shea have backgrounds with the Patriots and are considered [potential]( fits. TEs coach Nick Caley is seen as an internal candidate.
