Big updates on Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo + are the Cowboys backing away from Odell?

Big updates on Baker Mayfield (Rams) and Jimmy Garoppolo + are the Cowboys backing away from Odell?  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ December 07, 2022 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Together With: Stathead [Stathead](  Mayfield [Baker Mayfield] Rams claim Baker Mayfield off waivers Details: The Rams were the only team to place a claim on Mayfield and will pay the remaining $1.35 million of his contract. Rationale: Rams OC Liam Coen said the move was made for talent evaluation purposes. Will He Play? A source told Adam Schefter that Mayfield has “[a shot](” to play in the Rams’ Thursday night matchup against the Raiders. - Matthew Stafford (neck strain) is out for the remainder of the season and backup John Wolford is dealing with a neck injury of his own. - The only other quarterback on the roster is Bryce Perkins — who has struggled in limited action this season. Long Term Opportunity: There’s speculation that Matthew Stafford could retire in the offseason over concerns about concussions. If Mayfield — the No. 1 pick of the 2018 draft — impresses over the final five weeks, he could position himself as a potential replacement. Image: @RamsNFL Cowboys [Jerry Jones and family] Cowboys have concerns after meeting with Odell Beckham Jr. Details: The Cowboys are concerned that Beckham may not be able to play [until]( mid-January (at the earliest). - The team’s medical staff did not see a complete progression in his recovery from last Super Bowl’s ACL tear. Jerry: In his weekly radio appearance, Jerry Jones made clear that the team’s interest in Beckham is [tied]( to a contribution this season. Jones also said that he is “not at all confident” in signing Beckham without an on-field workout. - Beckham has not worked out for any of the three teams — Cowboys, Giants, Bills — he’s visited with over the last week. No Deals? It’s not clear if any team has offered Beckham a contract — though Josina Anderson (who is close to Beckham) thinks the Cowboys could be engaging in [negotiation]( tactics. Image: Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire Garoppolo [Jimmy Garoppolo] Jimmy Garoppolo could return late in the playoffs Details: The 49ers got good news on Tuesday, as doctors concluded that Garoppolo did [not]( suffer a Lisfranc injury to his broken foot. - This means he will not need surgery and can potentially return in seven to eight weeks. Playoffs: A seven-week recovery would put Garoppolo on track for the NFC divisional round. While an eight-week recovery would put him on track for the NFC Championship game. - Of course, the 49ers will need to secure a playoff spot and advance past the wild-card round for Garoppolo to even have a chance at returning. Confidence: The 49ers did not put in a waiver claim for Baker Mayfield, a sign they are at least somewhat confident in rookie Brock Purdy. The seventh-round pick guided the 49ers to a victory over the Dolphins last week. What's Left: The 49ers (8-4) close out the regular season with matchups against the Bucs (6-6), Seahawks (7-5), Commanders (7-5-1), Raiders (5-7), and Cardinals (4-8). They are currently the No. 4 seed in the NFC and would take on the Giants (7-4-1) in the wild-card round if the season ended today. Image: Bob Kupbens/Icon Sportswire Titans [Jon Robinson] Titans fire GM Jon Robinson Shocking: The firing shocked the football world, as GMs with winning records are rarely [let go]( in-season. - The Titans (7-5) are in position to win the AFC South and are coming off back-to-back division titles. A.J. Brown: The move likely has a lot to do with Robinson’s decision to trade A.J. Brown to the Eagles in the offseason — a move that HC Mike Vrabel did [not]( agree with. - The Titans have struggled to get production out of the receiver position without Brown this season. - Brown caught two touchdowns against the Titans this past Sunday — in the team’s embarrassing 35-10 loss to Philadelphia. Mixed Draft Results: Robinson has had some big draft hits (Brown, Derrick Henry, Kevin Byard, Jeffrey Simmons) but more recent selections (OL Isaiah Wilson, CB Caleb Farley) have been disappointing. Tannehill: Robinson is also responsible for Ryan Tannehill’s 4-year, $118 million contract — which many around the league regard as a poor use of resources, considering Tannehill’s ugly track record in big games. Replacement: VP of Player Personnel Ryan Cowden will act as the interim GM. Image: Robin Alam/Icon Sportswire OROY [Garrett Wilson] There is a 4-way battle for OROY Details: The race — per DraftKings — is between Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III, Packers WR Christian Watson, Jets WR Garrett Wilson, and Saints WR Chris Olave. Walker: Walker has the best odds (+200) but could see his favorite status drop if he misses time with a foot/ankle injury. The second-round pick has totaled 765 scrimmage yards (649 rushing, 116 receiving) and 9 touchdowns this season. Watson: Watson has the second-best odds (+225). The second-round pick has caught 25 passes for 401 yards and 7 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns on 5 carries. Wilson: Wilson has the third-best odds (+300). The first-round pick has caught 57 passes for 790 yards and 4 touchdowns — despite playing much of the season with a dysfunctional quarterback situation. - Wilson leads the NFL in receiving yards (257) over the past two weeks. Olave: Olave has the fourth-best odds, even though he is leading all rookie WRs in receptions and yards. The first-round pick has caught 60 passes for 887 yards and 3 touchdowns. DROY: Jets CB Sauce Gardner (-500) is the overwhelming favorite for DROY. He leads Seahawks CB Tariq Woolen (+450) and Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson (+800). Image: Bailey Hillesheim/Icon Sportswire Goff [Jared Goff] Colton Pouncey: Jared Goff could return as the Lions’ starting QB in 2023 Details: Pouncey, a Lions’ reporter for The Athletic, thinks Detroit could retain Goff in 2023 and use their two first round picks to fill [needs]( on defense. - Going into the season, most assumed the Lions would release Goff in 2023 and draft a top quarterback. Goff: Goff has guided a Lions’ offense that is tied for third in offensive touchdowns (37), fifth in first downs (267), and seventh in yards per game (369.1). - He ranks seventh among quarterbacks in passing yards (3,022) and tenth in passing touchdowns (19). Week 13: Last week against the Jaguars, Goff completed 75.6% of his passes for 340 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Defensive Issues: The problem in Detroit this season has mostly been defensive, as the Lions are giving up the most yards (402.2) and points per game (27.0). Fix: Pouncey thinks the Lions could use their first-round picks (currently No. 4 and No. 15) to target defensive prospects like Georgia DL Jalen Carter, Alabama EDGE Will Anderson Jr., Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr., and South Carolina CB Cam Smith. Image: Melissa Tamez/Icon Sportswire More News - [Raiders]( TE Darren Waller (hamstring) on track for Week 15 return (Dec. 18) - [Bucs]( wavied 2021 fourth-round WR Jaelon Darden - [Seahawks]( signed RB Wayne Gallman - [Eagles]( placed DE Robert Quinn (knee) on IR - [Ravens]( QB Lamar Jackson has a sprained PCL, will miss 1-3 weeks - [Cowboys]( signed CB Mackensie Alexander Together with Stathead Question of the Day Who has made the most extra points this season? - Brett Maher - Tyler Bass - Jason Myers - Jake Elliott Sign up for a monthly subscription and get your first month free, or use “[LEGIT20](” to save $20 off one year of Stathead Football.
