McCaffrey [Christian McCaffrey] Panthers trade Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers Details: The 49ers are [giving]( the Panthers a second-rounder in 2023, a third-rounder in 2023, a fourth-rounder in 2023, and a fifth-rounder in 2024. The Rams were involved in negotiations but failed to offer a better deal. Contract: Carolina has already paid out most of McCaffreyâs 2022 salary (the 49ers only owe $690,000). But the former All-Pro is due around $12 million per season from 2023 to 2025 â which will likely lead to a restructuring in the offseason. Risk: McCaffreyâs upside in Kyle Shanahanâs offense is massive â but he will need to stay healthy to be worth four future draft selections. - McCaffrey only played in 10 out of 33 possible games between 2020 and 2021 due to injuries.
- He has stayed healthy this season and currently ranks fourth in the league with 670 scrimmage yards. Star-Studded: Shanahan should have fun scheming his offense around McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk â all four thrive in yards-after-catch situations. - The 49ers (3-3) could use a boost, as they rank 19th in points per game (20.3) this season.
- The acquisition will likely push the 49ers into favored status in the underperforming NFC West. CAR RB Depth: The rebuilding Panthers will move forward with DâOnta Foreman and Chuba Hubbard at running back. Foreman, who totaled 689 scrimmage yards in Tennessee last year, will likely see more of the workload. Image: John Byrum/Icon Sportswire Kelce [Travis Kelce] Travis Kelce thinks the Chiefs are going to make a âmoveâ Background: The Chiefs restructured Kelceâs contract earlier this week to create $3.455 million in 2022 cap space. Theory: On his podcast, Kelce said that he thinks the cap space may have been created to [facilitate]( a âmoveâ and that âsomethingâs in the air for sure.â - Kelce: "Itâs a start to a move, right? Like, youâre freeing up cap space to be able to do something." OBJ? Interestingly, Kelce mentioned that heâs heard the speculation connecting Odell Beckham Jr. to the Chiefs and said heâd welcome such a transaction. - Both Chris Simms (NBC Sports) and Aaron Wilson (PFN) indicated this week that the Chiefs are expected to make a run at the talented 29-year-old. Advantage Needed: The Chiefs lost to the Bills at home last week and could use a game-changer like Beckham to even the odds in a probable postseason rematch. Note that the Bills are also considered a [top contender]( to sign Beckham. Image: Roy K. Miller/Icon Sportswire Brady [Tom Brady] Tom Brady shuts down mid-season retirement rumor Background: Former Buccaneers QB and current NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms recently [theorized]( that Brady could retire mid-season due to circumstances in his personal life â Brady and his wife Gisele Bündchen have reportedly hired divorce attorneys. Response: When asked about the [rumors]( on Thursday, Brady said, "I love the sport, I love the teammates, and I want to go do a good job for this team like I always have. So, no retirement in my future." Slow Start: Brady had led the Bucs to a disappointing 3-3 record and has seen numbers decline sharply from last season. - 2021: 312.7 yards per game, 6.0% touchdown rate (touchdowns per attempt)
- 2022: 275.3 yards per game, 3.2% touchdown rate On Track: The 45-year-old can get back on track with a strong performance versus the Panthers on Sunday. Carolina is allowing the ninth-most points per game (24.3) this season. More Bucs News... - Julio Jones (knee) practiced on Thursday and could play this week.
- The Bucs are an 11-point favorite over the Panthers. Image: Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire Elijah [Elijah Moore] Jets WR Elijah Moore requests a trade Details: According to multiple reports, the Jets [do not]( plan on honoring the request. - Moore was sent home from practice on Thursday, after expressing frustration with his diminishing offensive role. Barely Used: The 2021 second-rounder was not targeted in last weekâs game against the Packers and has only caught 16 passes this season. - Moore has seen fewer targets than RB Breece Hall and TE Tyler Conklin.
- Cory Davis and Garrett Wilson have been functioning as Zach Wilsonâs preferred options at receiver. Talent: Moore flashed [major talent]( as a rookie last year and would likely thrive in an offense that placed more value on his explosive playmaking skills. Inactive: According to ESPNâs Rich Cimini, Moore is not expected to play this week against the Broncos. Suitors: If the Jets change course and pursue a trade â the Chiefs, Raiders, Packers, and Vikings would likely have an interest. Image: Rich Graessle/Icon Sportswire Ravens [Gus Edwards] Gus Edwards nearing a return; JK Dobbins and Mark Andrews continue to miss practice Edwards: Edwards, who tore his ACL before the 2021 season, has been [cleared]( by the Ravensâ medical staff and will either return this Sunday against the Browns or next Thursday night (Oct. 27) against the Bucs. Impressive: Last time he was healthy (2020), Edwards rushed for 723 yards and scored 6 touchdowns on 144 carries. He has an impressive career average of 5.2 yards per carry. Dobbins: Dobbinsâ knee âtightened upâ in last weekâs loss to the Giants and he has yet to practice this week. If he doesnât practice today, he should be considered doubtful for Sunday. - Kenyan Drake, who rushed for 119 yards last week, will likely start if Dobbins and Edwards are held out. Andrews: Andrews, who leads the Ravens in receptions (39) and receiving yards (455), has not practiced this week with a knee injury. According to John Harbaugh, the missed time is [rest-related](. Bateman: Rashod Bateman (hamstring) has progressed to limited practices and seems to have a decent shot of playing Sunday. Odds: The Ravens are a 6.5-point favorite over the Browns. Image: Scott Winters/Icon Sportswire Raiders [Darren Waller] Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow are in danger of missing Week 7 Waller: Waller, who is battling a hamstring injury, told Jim Trotter that he is â[likely out](â for Sundayâs game against the Texans. - The 30-year-old has been bothered by his hamstring since training camp. Declining? Waller missed six games with knee and back injuries last season and has not produced at a high level since his Pro Bowl year in 2020. - Heâs only averaging 3.2 catches for 35.0 yards per game this season and has scored just 3 touchdowns in his last sixteen appearances. Moreau: Foster Moreau, who has 6 catches for 74 yards this season, will start in Wallerâs place. Renfrow: Renfrow did not practice on Thursday with a hip injury â which could be a new ailment, considering he practiced fully on Wednesday. Pass-Catchers: If Waller and Renfrow donât play, Derek Carr will lean even more heavily on Davante Adams and Mack Hollins.
