Takeaways from the season opener + key injury updates heading into Week 1 ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ September 09, 2022 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Bills [Josh Allen] Statement Made: Bills crush Rams 31-10 Team to Beat: The Bills physically dominated the Rams from start to finish. They looked like an elite team with legitimate Super Bowl intentions. Allen: MVP favorite Josh Allen had a strong debut, completing 26-of-31 passes for 297 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. He also totaled 56 yards and a touchdown on 10 rush attempts. - His touchdown throws were caught by Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Isaiah McKenzie. Seven: The Bills’ defense abused Matthew Stafford, who threw three interceptions and was sacked seven times. Von Miller had two of the sacks and appears to be worth every penny of the mega-deal he signed in the offseason. - Buffalo averaged just 2.47 sacks per game last year. Concern in LA? Poor Week 1 performances typically lead to overreactive analysis… but in the case of the Rams… such reactions are probably justified. The offensive line was atrocious, Matthew Stafford played like an undisciplined backup, the running game was non-existent (3.46 ypc), and outside of a few forced turnovers, the defense got stomped. Reaction: After the game, Sean McVay referred to the loss as “humbling,” while Jalen Ramsey (who struggled to contain Diggs) simply said, “We got our ass beat.” Next Week: The Bills will host the Titans. While the Rams will host the Falcons in a get-right game. Image: Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire Russell [Russell] Russell Wilson confirms that the Seahawks tried to trade him multiple times over the past few years Details: Wilson made the revelation to Jeff Legwold (ESPN). Details of two [trade]( attempts — one in 2018 and the other in 2019 — have begun to surface. 2018: According to an ESPN report earlier this week, the Seahawks offered Wilson to the Browns for the first overall pick of the 2018 draft — which they would have used to select Josh Allen. 2019: A year later, according to Mike Florio, the Seahawks considered trading him to the [Cardinals]( for the first overall pick of the 2019 draft — which they would have used to select Kyler Murray. - The organization was finally able to trade Wilson, to the Broncos, this past March. Week 1: Wilson will make his Broncos debut against the Seahawks on Monday night. He expects a rowdy crowd, though is hoping for a positive reception. - The Broncos are 6.5-point favorites. Image: Shaun Brooks/Actionplus/Icon Sportswire Dak [Dak Prescott] Dak Prescott had to leave practice due to minor ankle discomfort Details: Prescott left practice early because a new pair of [cleats]( made his surgically repaired right ankle feel "uncomfortable." - Prescott had surgery in 2020 to repair a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. Minor: The 29-year-old quarterback told reporters that switching back to his original cleats should alleviate the issue. He expects to play against the Buccaneers on Sunday without any limitations. Last Year: Prescott completed 42 of 58 passes for 403 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception in the Cowboys’ loss to Tampa Bay last season. More Cowboys News... - WR Michael Gallup (ACL) got in a limited practice session and could make his debut in Week 2. - Noah Brown (39 career catches) is expected to start opposite CeeDee Lamb for the time being. Image: George Walker/Icon Sportswire Together with Stathead Question of the Day Who made the longest field in 2009? - Ryan Lindell (Bills) - Sebastian Janikowski (Raiders) - Kris Brown (Texans) - Jay Feely (Jets) Rondale [Rondale Moore] Rondale Moore could miss Week 1 (and beyond) with a hamstring injury Details: Moore suffered the injury in practice and will undergo an [MRI]( to determine the severity. Profile: The 5-foot-7, 180-pounder suffered multiple hamstring injuries in college. He caught 54 passes for 435 yards and a touchdown as a second-round rookie last season. Impact: Moore was set for a significant offensive role due to the DeAndre Hopkins suspension. The Cardinals will have to move forward with Marquise Brown, A.J. Green, Andy Isabella, and Greg Dortch at receiver. - Isabella (14 catches for 226 yards) and Dortch (14 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown) were very productive in preseason action last month. More Injuries: J.J Watt (calf), Zach Ertz (calf), and newly acquired CB Trayvon Mullen (toe) did not practice on Thursday. All three should be considered questionable for Arizona’s Week 1 matchup against the Chiefs. - The Cardinals are 6-point home underdogs. Image: Frank Jansky/Icon Sportswire Eagles [A.J. Brown] PFF’s Trevor Sikkema has the Eagles going 13-4 this season Details: Sikkema is [optimistic]( about the Eagles for two reasons — 1). they have an easy schedule and 2). the roster is improved on both sides of the ball. - The Eagles went 9-8 last year. Easy Schedule: The Eagles will only face five teams — the Cardinals, Cowboys, Steelers, Packers, and Titans — that made the playoffs last season… and none of those teams made it past the Divisional Round. Improved Offense: The Eagles added a big-time playmaker in A.J. Brown and should see growth from young players like Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Kenneth Gainwell, and left guard Landon Dickerson. Improved Defense: On defense, the Eagles added a top pass-rusher in Haason Reddick (11 sacks in 2021), a quality corner in James Bradberry, a monstrous defensive tackle in first-rounder Jordan Davis, and two speedy linebackers in Kyzir White and third-rounder Nakobe Dean. NFC East: Behind the Eagles, Sikkema has the Cowboys at 10-7, the Commanders at 6-11, and the Giants at 5-12. Image: Andy Lewis/Icon Sportswire Dolphins [Jaylen Waddle] Jaylen Waddle and Chase Edmonds are on track for Week 1 Waddle: Waddle, who has missed significant practice time with a quad injury, practiced in [full]( on Thursday and should play against the Patriots. - The 2021 first-rounder caught 104 of 140 targets (74.3% catch-rate) for 1,015 yards and 6 touchdowns last season. WR Depth: Waddle will form the league’s fastest receiver duo with Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins also have Cedrick Wilson, Erik Ezukanma, and Trent Sherfield at the position. Edmonds: Edmonds, who is dealing with a groin issue, also got a full practice in on Thursday. He’s in line to start at running back. - Edmonds totaled 903 scrimmage yards (592 rushing, 311 receiving) with the Cardinals last season. RB Depth: The Dolphins plan to feature a committee of Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, and Myles Gaskin. Favorites: Miami is favored to beat New England by 3.5 points. Image: Michael Allio/Icon Sportswire More News - [Seahawks]( RB Ken Walker is unlikely to play Week 1 - [Saints]( signed C Erik McCoy to a five-year extension - [Steelers]( WR Diontae Johnson (shoulder) was limited in practice - [Panthers]( RB Christian McCaffrey (shin) was added to the injury report - [49ers]( TE George Kittle (groin) is unlikely to play Week 1 - [Packers]( WR Allen Lazard (ankle) continues to miss practice Together with Stathead QUESTION OF THE DAY (Answer) [Janikowski]( Answer: Sebastian Janikowski - Sebastian Janikowski: 61 - Ryan Lindell: 56 - Kris Brown: 56 - Jay Feely: 55 The Most Powerful Research Tools in Sports Stathead offers the most expansive collection of football research tools available to the public.
