Important JK Dobbins update + the Eagles add a defensive starter via trade  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ August 31, 2022 [Sign up]( [Legit Football]( Dobbins [JK Dobbins] Ian Rapoport: JK Dobbins’ Week 1 status is “certainly in doubt” Details: Dobbins is still working his way back from ACL surgery and has yet to fully participate in practice. At this point, a Week 1 absence (against the Jets) seems more [likely]( than not. - Gus Edwards (ACL) won’t be available either, as he’s already been placed on the reserve/PUP list — which requires a minimum four game absence. Drake: The uncertainty surrounding Dobbins and Edwards surely played a role in the Ravens' decision to sign Kenyan Drake on Tuesday. - According to Rapoport, Drake will get significant carries and could end up making a “big impact” in Baltimore. Davis: Mike Davis, who spent last year in Atlanta, is also likely to play significant snaps for the time being. Image: @jk.dobbins2 on Instagram CGJ [Chauncey Gardner-Johnson] Eagles trade for Saints DB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Details: The Eagles will [receive]( Gardner-Johnson and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Saints for a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 sixth-round pick. Profile: Gardner-Johnson, who plays safety and nickel corner, totaled 46 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 7 pass deflections across twelve games last season. - He earned a decent 62.2 PFF grade. Fit: Gardner-Johnson is expected to start at safety opposite Marcus Epps. According to Albert Breer, he is viewed as an [ideal fit]( for DC Jonathan Gannon, who prefers safeties who can play “all over the field” and “adapt to week-to-week changes in matchups and coverage.” Harris: Immediately after the trade, the Eagles released last year’s starting safety Anthony Harris (61.6 PFF grade). Saints: The Saints will move forward with Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye at safety. Image: @philadelphiaeagles on Instagram Broncos [Russell Wilson] The Broncos are projected to win 9.4 games according to simulation Details: The Athletic ran a simulator [100,000]( to project an expected win total for each team. #13: The Broncos projection came in at 9.4 wins, which ranked thirteenth highest in the league. - From a divisional standpoint, the Broncos finished ahead of the Raiders (8.3 wins) but behind the Chargers (9.8 wins) and Chiefs (10.6 wins). Over: Nick Kosmider (The Athletic) thinks the Broncos will surpass the projection as long as Rusell Wilson stays healthy. - Kosmider mentions that in ten seasons with the Seahawks, Wilson won fewer than 10 games only twice. Improved: Kosmider also beleives the Broncos’ defense will be better than it was last season — due to the additions of Randy Gregory and D.J. Jones. Note that Denver allowed the third fewest points in the league in 2021. Easy Win? Denver appears likely to start the season on a strong note — they are favored to win the Monday Night opener against Seattle by 6.5 points. Image: @dangerusswilson on Instagram Okudah [Jeff Okudah] Lions CB Jeff Okudah has won a starting job Details: Dan Campbell [confirmed]( that Okudah, the third overall pick of the 2020 draft, will start opposite Amani Oruwariye against the Eagles. - Okudah had been competing against Will Harris for the role. 2020-2021: Okudah’s career has gotten off to an uneven start — he struggled as a rookie (42.5 PFF grade) and missed virtually all of last season with a ruptured Achilles. Turning a Corner? Okudah earned an excellent 84.0 PFF grade in the Lions’ final preseason game against the Steelers. Highlights included a clutch pass breakup (on a pass intended for George Pickens) and a tackle for loss (on Najee Harris). Renner: PFF’s Michael Renner recently [tweeted](: “Idk want to speak too soon, but Jeffrey Okudah kinda looked like the Ohio State Jeffrey Okudah this preseason.” - Okudah is one the greatest cornerbacks in Ohio State history. Ninth: A jump from Okudah would go a long way in improving a Lions’ secondary that allowed the ninth most passing yards last season (244.7 per game). Image: @jeffokudah on Instagram Bernhardt [Jared Bernhardt] Former lacrosse player Jared Bernhardt makes the Falcons 53-man roster Details: Bernhardt, who was regarded as the top collegiate lacrosse player in 2021, survived final roster cuts in Atlanta. - The 24-year-old made the team as a wide receiver/special teamer. Profile: Bernhardt played lacrosse for five years at the University of Maryland and ended his career as the Terrapins’ all-time leader in points and goals. He won the 2021 Tewaaraton Award, which is given to the best player in college lacrosse. - After his lacrosse career, Bernhardt played one season of football at DII Ferris State. He started at quarterback and led the team to a 14-0 record and a DII National Championship. Preseason: Bernhardt reeled in 5 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown across three preseason games. He also had a strong training camp performance. WR Depth: Bernhard is one of six receivers to make the Falcons’ final roster. The others are Drake London, Bryan Edwards, Olamide Zaccheaus, Damiere Byrd, and KhaDarel Hodge. Image: @jaredbernhardt on Instagram Raiders [Trayvon Mullen] Raiders trade CB Trayvon Mullen to the Cardinals, release OL Alex Leatherwood Mullen: The Raiders [dealt]( Mullen to Arizona for a conditional 2023 seventh-rounder. Mullen Profile: Mullen, a 2019 second-rounder, has started 31 games over the past three seasons. Quarterbacks targeting him in coverage last year completed 62.5% of their passes. LV Impact: The Raiders will proceed with Rock Ya-Sin and Anthony Averett as starting outside corners. Emerging star Nate Hobbs will continue to play the nickel spot. Fit in AZ: Mullen will bolster an Arizona corner unit that only has one established starter (Byron Murphy Jr.). He’ll compete with Marco Wilson and Antonio Hamilton for playing time. Leatherwood: Leatherwood, the No. 17 pick of last year’s draft, failed to show training camp/preseason improvement from his disastrous rookie season (14 penalties, 8 sacks allowed). Jermaine Elumanor (14 career starts) will start at right tackle. - Despite the rough start to his career, Leatherwood has impressive traits and will surely get a second chance with another team.
