Do you really know?

They show up at the gym sporadically only to sleepwalk through workouts, barely breaking a sweat. They constantly complain about how situations and circumstances âmadeâ them fall off the wagon (pesky office potlucks!). Theyâre always on the lookout for the newest fads and magic bullet fixes. If youâre going to succeed where the masses fail, you need to inoculate yourself against these attitudes and behaviors, and that requires a little soul-searching. Different people have different reasons for eating well and working out. Some like to push their body to the limit. Others want to be more attractive. Many want to boost their confidence and self-esteem. Most want to improve their overall health and well-being. These are all perfectly valid reasons to get fitâlooking great, feeling great, having high energy levels, being more resistant to sickness and disease, living longer, and so forthâbut itâs important that you know your reasons. Iâve worked with thousands of people over the years, and here are some of the motivations theyâve shared with me: - Getting complimented and asked for advice in the gym
- Feeling more confident and competent
- Looking sexier naked
- Being more productive at work
- Savoring delicious food
- Pleasantly surprising their doctor
- Rocking their favorite clothes
- Setting a good example for their kids
- Liking outdoor activities again
- Feeling physically and mentally strong
- Eliminating aches and pains
- Tackling new physical challenges I love these. Theyâre real, specific, and meaningful, and theyâre great examples of sincere and personal reasons to get into awesome shape. So, how about you? Why do you want to get in shape? Maybe you want to play sports better? Love the way you look? Enjoy overcoming physical barriers? Be more active with your kids? Avoid disease? Slow down the processes of aging? Radiate a youthful vitality? Just have a body that works the way itâs supposed to? Heck, beat someone in arm-wrestling matches? Think about it, and then hit reply and let me know. Iâd love to hear why youâre on this journey!
