A Firsthand Account of Our Treetop Retreat in the Caribbean // Why the Dominican Republic? The food

A Firsthand Account of Our Treetop Retreat in the Caribbean // [Explore the Trip »]( [VIEW ONLINE]( [LeftLane Sports]( [ALL SALES»]( [TRAVEL»]( [Stay Among the Treetops in the Dominican Republic // See the Trip]( [Ashley -Travel Services Manager]( [Dominican Culture Images]( Why the Dominican Republic? The food and culture is what initially drew me in. The capital city of Santo Domingo was named the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean for a reason. But when I got there, it was so much more. You have the beach, mountains, and the jungle all wrapped into a small island. You also get the bustling city vibe in the capital along with the stunning colonial architecture. [Dominican Culture Images]( What was it like traveling right now? It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought that it was going to be time consuming and confusing. It was the complete opposite. And flying home was just as easy. We had to get a Covid test before we left the country and thankfully the hotel assisted in setting that up. My advice is to check the U.S. Embassy's website before traveling to another country. That will tell you exactly what to expect and what is required to enter another country and return home. [Dominican Culture Images]( What made the trip so special? Definitely the treehouse room. I have never stayed in anything like it. It's open air but you have curtains you can close for more privacy. You get to experience the sights and sounds of the jungle right outside your door – it really is picture perfect. I fell asleep to geckos calling and woke up to light rainfall on the leaves. [Dominican Culture Images]( Tell us about a typical day on the trip. I would wake up, have breakfast at the main lodge, and then drink my coffee in one of the hammocks overlooking the jungle. After a relaxing morning, we'd head out for the day's adventures - snorkeling, zip-lining, scootering, and exploring local beaches and restaurants. We usually ended our day hanging out by the pool before dinner. I may have sneaked a nap or two in there as well. [Dominican Culture Images]( Any must-do recommendations for our members? Go explore! Take a scooter ride around the area. While driving in the Dominican Republic is an adventure in itself, it also allows you to see the countryside. We rented scooters for a day and it was absolutely worth it. You also need to try tostones (twice-fried plantains) and if you don't mind alcohol, a traditional drink called Mama Juana. It's said to be an all-inclusive healer. Taken in shot form, it's a fun way to cheers to your upcoming adventures!
