In this weekly insight, we explain why it’s a major milestone and how we plan to attract the next billion users. Bringing security & convenience at the heart of Web3 Both newcomers and Web3 users must understand that beyond day-to-day crypto events, the next phase of the Internet is currently unfolding before our eyes. In the 1990s, Web1 was “read only.” Since the 2000s, Web2 has brought dynamic capabilities by enabling us to publish content and interact with it. But the issue is that you don’t own the content that you publish in Web2. That’s where Web3 adds value by allowing for true digital ownership. Web3 should be based on true self-custody… or it will just look like another centralized Web2 with crypto as a new ingredient. Across the world, the current market meltdown has also increased third-party risks, putting your digital assets in danger when stored by centralized custodians, and highlighting the [crucial need for self-custody](. Each digital revolution creates new needs for hardware. The next generation of Web3 hardware that we are building at Ledger combines three crucial properties: self-custody (to prevent third-party risks), security (to prevent hacks) and convenience (to bring volume). As an exponential number of people are set to enter the space, they need the convenience of Web2 combined with the security of Web3. We are here to bring them just that. “Ledger Connect”: A new milestone for Web3 users “Ledger Connect” - thoroughly explained in our [blogpost]( - is our upcoming crypto wallet extension that will enable you to seamlessly connect to Web3 apps from anywhere with your [Ledger Nano X]( with full security and convenience. Simply put, you won't need any [third-party wallet dependencies]( to dive into [Web3]( anymore. Besides bringing convenience, Ledger Connect will add a new security layer called “Web3 Check.” If a Web3 app looks suspicious, “Ledger Connect” will automatically warn you about potential security issues. For Charles Hamel, VP of Product at Ledger, “Ledger Connect is easy, smart and safe. Easy because it connects your wallet directly to your browser, with no hackable software wallet in the middle. Smart because it only requires one extension for multiple blockchains. And safe thanks to our new feature that warns you about potential risks before you sign on a device and that we call “Web3 check.” It’s too often believed that security comes at the expense of convenience. At Ledger, we are here to bring the best standards on both sides. [I wanna know more] Ledger Connect simplifies the world’s most secure Web3 experience.
