[Ian and Pascal] Welcome to a special edition of your weekly newsletter. We are concluding our first, bi-annual Web3 Developer event - Ledger Op3n - right in the beating heart of Paris, where we brought together world-class industry players from all chains and tokens (you can find the program [here](. Op3n was a landmark event for Ledger where key product announcements were made and the future of Web3 was debated and discussed. Let’s state the obvious: Web3 is nothing without its community of innovators and developers. The talks focused on Ledger being an open platform for developers (check out our [Developer Portal]( right here) and the user experience necessary to grow mass adoption within crypto and Web3. We believe in a future that is decentralized, focused on self-custody and security. Do you? [Figures] [1Inch]( [Metaverse]( Crypto assets can be managed on your Ledger Live! [Send →]( [Insight of the week] Ledger Op3n: The Talks Resumed [Ledger Open Illustration] The Ledger Op3n Conference centered on security, Web3, NFTs, community and the future of crypto. Here is a quick wrap-up. The Ledger Vision Pascal Gauthier, CEO at Ledger, kick-started the conference by giving his vision of the company. “We want to be the number one choice for developers worldwide, with the most secure platform and scalable infrastructure.” Web3 is nothing without Developers, and that’s why Ledger plans to become the world’s most developer-friendly platform. For Ledger’s CEO, the world being increasingly digitized also brings greater security risks. “The next 20 years will be about tokenization (...) and with the parallel increase in value and cyberthreats, securing it has never felt more important.” The emergence of Web3 brings a key learning: Web2 devices (our smartphones & laptops) cannot protect Web3 value. “That’s why Ledger’s core security pillar remains in hardware.” said Gauthier. Ian Rogers, CXO at Ledger, continued to explain the far-reaching impact of Web3: “The Internet ushered in a revolution of information. But in crypto we are part of something even bigger, a revolution of value. Money will be digitized and so will art, collectibles, and experiences.” The Future of Entertainment & Social Communities Trevor McFedries, co-founder and CEO of the technology startup Brud, creator of the virtual influencer pop star Lil Miquela, and founder of the DAO FWB, joined the scene to provide his vision of NFTs and the future of the entertainment business. The creator of a “virtual avatar and influencer” argued that entertainment companies like Marvel and Disney could “mark a transition from Web2 to Web3,” creating a world where “communities rather than centralized corporations own the IPs.” Such a system could enable fans to own entertainment figures and have direct stakes in the stars they celebrate. Fascinating, right? The crypto field could also mark a new era for social communities. Amber Atherton, from Discord, Alexander Zhang, from Friends With Benefits (FWB), and Adélina Mattera from World of Women (WoW) joined the scene to share their visions. They agreed on the following idea: a driving force is the emergence of cultural, crypto-driven memberships (like FWB) for Web3 artists, operators, communities, thinkers or musicians… bound together by shared values and token-based incentives. Soon, joining a community could mean that everyone would be literally invested in the community’s success and get to participate in the upside of the value created, standing in stark contrast with today’s social media. Making Web3 a more Secure Place Web3 is too big to ignore, and will keep growing exponentially, but this comes with high security risks for our digital belongings. Charles Guillemet, CTO at Ledger, brought his security expertise on stage. “If we compare Web3 with Web1, we are in 1998,” he started, adding that, “the iPhone puts a completely non-secure device in the hands of the user.” In the age of Web3, that’s something worth knowing. For Ledger’s CTO, software programs designed to hack our personal devices are getting more and more sophisticated. Spywares such as Pegasus, developed by the NSO Group, enable full access to the smartphones of the victims. Guillemet added that, “in 2021 only, more than 1 billion was stolen in DeFi.” And the good news is... Ledger hardware solutions help to mitigate human error and fix these critical challenges. Also, congrats to Guillemet on his 4th Ledger anniversary! [I wanna know more] Is your crypto secure?
