{NAME}, over the last few years, Republicans’ strategy has become increasingly obvious: stack the courts, spread misinformation, and get their claws into state legislatures. While Trump forced Democrats to focus on the White House and on defending our communities from his attacks, the rest of the GOP was hard at work propping up far-right extremists in down-ballot elections — fueled by rampant rightwing propaganda, and with the goal of helping more extreme voices rise through the ranks. Today, we’re seeing the results of that in state legislatures around the country. From the assault on abortion rights to the shameful targeting of LGBTQ+ communities, Republican-controlled state governments are the point of origin for the WORST attacks we’re facing. [{NAME}, that’s why as we fight to hold the House and Senate this year, it’s also critical that we pay attention to state and local elections, and clamp down on the rightwing misinformation that is putting more and more extremists in power further down the ballot.]( Fox News and its propaganda machine are pushing more and more voters to embrace fringe conspiracies and the candidates who espouse them — even at the level of their local school board or state rep. And as we’ve seen all too often, those local politicians then have a path to gain higher office and greater power — and bring their extremist policies along with them. To fight back, STOPPING Fox’s misinformation has GOT to be a core part of our strategy. [With our pressure campaigns pushing corporate advertisers to DROP Fox and stop funding its propaganda, our Lede Progress community is leading that fight. But with the midterms just around the corner, we need to ratchet up our efforts.
