Our historic endorsement in Alabama

Sylvia’s running in a special election that ends in just 3 weeks, so we need your help ASAP! [Leaders We Deserve]( I’m excited to announce Leaders We Deserve’s next endorsement: Sylvia Swayne! If elected next Tuesday, she’ll be the first trans person ever elected to the Alabama State Legislature! I’ll share more about why we made Sylvia our second endorsement in her race for Alabama's 55th State House District, but first: [Sylvia’s running in a special election that ends just next week, so we need you to split a donation between Leaders We Deserve and Sylvia’s campaign as soon as possible.]( [Donate »]( Sylvia is a badass 26-year-old progressive woman who is the first openly trans person running for state office in Alabama and would be the first trans person elected to the Alabama legislature — which would be a massive and affirming win for LGBTQ+ individuals in the south. While this race will not flip Alabama, there is an important reason we are supporting Sylvia — Hope. Young transgender people are under attack around the country by far-right fascists who are more interested in what’s in a child's pants than whether or not they die in a school shooting. The exact misprioritization and distraction that is killing the future of our country and kids. It is critical that young people — especially marginalized young people — see that they are not alone and there are people fighting for their rights in power who know what it is like to constantly be in danger for simply being themselves. She’s in a special election runoff election against a cop who has accepted corporate PAC money from bad actors. This means that while her opponent is taking big checks from special interests, Sylvia’s campaign relies on small-dollar donations from grassroots supporters like you, {NAME}. Since this is a special election, we’re under a massive time crunch: Sylvia’s election takes place October 24, and voter registration closed on October 10.
