When learning to program, many students find themselves eager to make a project that feels tangible and their own. While there’s much to master before being able to create a dynamic web application, you can take a quick dive into the world of CSS and HTML to gain early exposure, and a taste of what’s to come. Many who have prior experience with HTML and CSS have expressed that these workshops are excellent reviews of the topics as well. If you’re interested in learning about these tools at the core of virtually every web page, we have two workshops next week that address each of these topics. Signup details below: Join Clare next Tuesday, February 27th at 6pm US Eastern for “HTML 101: Learn to Build Webpages from Scratch.” You’ll start from square one, with the rules and syntax of HTML and practice with some of the core tags that are part of every web page. [Register]( Next Thursday, February 29th at 6pm US Eastern, join Trevor for “How to Style Your Webpages: CSS Basics for Beginners.” He’ll be presenting information in a beginner-friendly way that gradually increases in complexity, building upon previous elements. [Register]( Though these workshops are great to attend in sequence, they stand alone just fine, so feel free to attend just one or both. Here’s some of the feedback we’ve received from previous attendees who’ve participated in these two workshops: “Very detailed and thorough! It had a clear and gentle steady progression…It showed how fun and flexible CSS is. Loved the emphasis that CSS depends on HTML to work, but HTML can live without CSS.” “I always found CSS to be an absolute mystery despite taking a college class on it. The presenter in this workshop explained The Cascade and how it works, and several lightbulbs went off over my head. I now feel inspired to go try things out on my own! Thank you!” “I really liked the diagrams that VERY clearly broke down the individual pieces/parts of different HTML elements and their attributes. I liked the quizzes to help the audience test their comprehension of the material.” Workshops are free and open to everyone, regardless of your Launch School subscription status. They’re designed to help grasp essential programming topics. We hope you’ll join us. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
