[View in browser]( Hi, and welcome to another edition of Dodgers Dugout. My name is Houston Mitchell, and though my heart might not be able to take it, it seems only right that the Dodgers-Giants come down to a decisive Game 5. âDodger fans turned up the noise and energy for Game 4. All except the fans who sit directly behind home plate. Itâs like they have an oil painting out there. The only time they move is to check their phones. Why pay all that money to sit there and be so uninterested in the game? Meanwhile, the fans who sit in the âcheapâ seats (no seats are really cheap in the playoffs) stand and jump and cheer. Switch places. âThe fans everywhere else except behind home plate were great. âPlaying at Dodger Stadium is unbelievable, having 50,000 almost every single night and just the energy is electric,â Trea Turner said during these playoffs. And the fact a lot of fans show up at other ballparks? âI think thatâs kind of weird, traveling to other stadiums and having a good portion be rooting for you as opposed to against you,â he said. âI think thatâs the one thing that kind of sticks out.â âTBS announcer Brian Anderson thinks every fly ball is a home run. He and Ron Darling still talk too much. Even guys who have had six energy drinks go up to them and say âHey, slow down a bit.â âLogan Webb, who shut down the Dodgers in Game 1, will start Game 5. A note to the Dodgers: You donât have to swing at every changeup he throws. âThis is the great part of baseball. Does Webb continue throwing changeups since it worked so well in Game 1? Does he anticipate the Dodgers will be expecting changeups and alter his game plan and throw more fastballs? Does he figure the Dodgers would expect him to alter his plan and stay with changeups? âJulio UrÃas starts for the Dodgers. Itâs a comfortable feeling having him on the mound with all the big games he has appeared in. âThey showed both pitchers in their respective dugouts often during Game 4. UrÃas was sitting and looked cool as a cucumber. Webb was standing and looked nervous. Maybe thatâs a good sign. Enjoying this newsletter? Your support helps us deliver the news that matters most. [Become a Los Angeles Times subscriber.]( âMy biggest complaint about the Dodgers offense was evidenced in Game 3. They donât adjust to what is going on. The wind was gusting in much of the game, but they still tried to hit every ball as hard as possible. Meanwhile, Albert Pujols, who had two hits, just put the ball in play. âOf course, adjusting when you are used to doing something a certain way is easier said than done. It would be like someone asking you to eat your cereal left-handed one morning (or right-handed if you are a left-hander). But still, no one is paying me millions of dollars to eat my cereal. âDave Roberts said that Gavin Lux will start Game 5, heâs just not sure at what position. âWalker Buehler showed why heâs an ace in Game 4, starting on three daysâ rest for the first time in the majors. âAs long as I could walk in the clubhouse, I would have told them I could pitch,â Buehler said. ââThatâs why aces are aces,â Roberts said. âBecause they donât run from fights.â â"When our backs are against the wall, we got a guy named Walker Buehler who gets us out of it,â Mookie Betts said. âHe did it again [Tuesday.] Now Julio has to bring us home.â âRoberts says it is âhighly unlikelyâ Max Scherzer will be available for Game 5. So youâre saying thereâs a chance! âItâs nice to see that Giants manager Gabe Kapler was able to find work long after âWelcome Back, Kotterâ went off the air. Wait, Iâm being told that was Gabe Kaplan. âThe Dodgers have won 109 games this season. The Giants have won 109 games. This series has shown why they are the two best teams in baseball. All we can hope for in Game 5 is a well-played game, with no excuses for either side. May the best team win. âActually, Roberts said it best: âThis is what baseball wants. All the series are done. Weâre gonna be the only show in town. If you have a pulse or are a sports fan, you better be watching Dodgers-Giants.â âIâll stick with the prediction I made before this series started: Dodgers in five. ADVERTISEMENT
