And then Covid hit and raised the stakes even higher, as independent workers of all kinds struggled to get unemployment, health care, and paid time off. And now as we begin the work to help our city recover, I'm continuing to work on proposals that will help raise the floor for workers in the gig economy, including introducing legislation this week to provide a minimum wage to delivery workers. At tomorrow's event we'll cover issues including portable benefits, worker misclassification, the Freelance isn't Free Act, combatting wage theft, and more, and discuss your ideas about how we can ensure New York City is a place where independent workers of all kinds can thrive.
