Casey McQuiston attends the Time100 Next list celebrating the 100 rising stars who are shaping the future of their fields at SECOND on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, in New York. (Photo by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) Casey McQuiston While most may know author Casey McQuiston (they/them) from their debut romance novel "Red, White and Royal Blue," my first introduction to their books was actually their first young-adult release, "I Kissed Shara Wheeler." I've been hooked on their writing style since then. I'm mostly a mood reader, meaning that I pick up and read whichever book sounds most fascinating to me in the moment. (I hope that is plenty enough of a reason that I still haven't read "Red, White and Royal Blue."). Their new book, "The Pairing," released Tuesday, which of course means it's on my bookshelf, waiting for me to dive into the pages. McQuiston's books center queer protagonists and their characters are so fleshed out that they feel as real as any person. "The Pairing" is a book about two exes that end up on the same food and wine tour of Europe, and naturally, chaos ensues. I attended a release party for "The Pairing" at Pocket Books in downtown Lancaster. It featured wine and charcuterie pairings from Lancaster city business KelSas Sweetbox that focused on Italy and Spain. Everything was delicious. It was the perfect set up to what will hopefully be the next book I read. Did we spot you? [66b0229da43ec image] Our photographers are always out and about.
