For more things to do, [check out our events calendar](. Here's what I'm loving. "Perfume & Pain" is a campy, sapphic novel about an emotionally messy writer. 'Perfume & Pain' I love a novel with a messy, mentally unstable female lead, and "Perfume & Pain" checks off those boxes. The protagonist of the novel, Astrid, is in her 30s and doesn't have her life together. She's a notable lesbian writer, but she's in a writing slump. Astrid has many opportunities in front of her - a movie adaptation of her novel; a sapphic writing group - and she keeps sabotaging them. This novel, written by Anna Dorn, is meant to be a love letter to lesbian pulp fiction. While that's not a genre I'm well versed in, I'm having a blast reading "Perfume & Pain," and am hoping to finish it by the weekend. It's a great kickoff read for Pride Month! Did we spot you? Jackson Middle School in Lancaster city [hosted the Southeast Nature Fest]( featuring free plants, music, art, games and more. - Soul/funk band [Monophonics kicked off]( Long's Park's Summer Music Series last Sunday.
