It's a debut novel from author Eliza Clark, but it has the style and chops of someone who has written a hundred books before. "Boy Parts" focuses on the main character, Irina, who is perhaps one of the meanest, irredeemable main characters of anything I've ever read. She's a photographer, always in search for the next thrill. When she gets selected to be part of a niche art gallery exhibition, she goes through her previous works and takes new photos. But, the photos get more and more macabre and dark. Without giving too much away, this book could easily be described as a female-led "American Psycho," or "Nightcrawler." Maybe throw in some vibes of fashion horror, like "In Fabric" and "The Neon Demon." It's one of my favorite books of this year, though do make sure you have a nice palate cleanser book on deck, like perhaps a nice cozy fantasy book, or a sweet romance. You'll need it.
