[LaineyGossip.com - Calling all smuthounds!] Monday, November 28, 2016 [Intro for November 28, 2016] [Casey Affleck] Dear Gossips, They aired a feature on Casey Affleck yesterday morning on [CBS Sunday Morning]. He was interviewed by Tracy Smith and takes her on a walk through Fenway Park, discussing his childhood in Boston, how he enrolled at Columbia University only to return to Hollywood, and how he sees his career – he doesn’t want to be more famous; he’s happy as he is, with acting roles that come to him now and again, leaving the big ass movie star thing to his brother. But it’s Oscar season. And Casey Affleck is a frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Manchester By The Sea. And CBS Sunday Morning has become a “serious” stop on the campaign circuit, assuming that those old ass white men who make up a majority of Academy voters watch it over coffee and newspapers. It’s CBS though. Like a proper news outlet. So… did they ask Casey about those sexual harassment allegations? [Mashable] was one of the first and only outlets that covered the sexual harassment allegations early on, way back in September, when we were all talking about Nate Parker and his rape trial. I’ve linked to that article several times, probably every time I write about Casey Affleck. In mid-October, after Variety put Casey on the cover and [barely mentioned the sexual harassment case], even though Variety’s interview with Nate Parker back in August was one of two Parker interviews that kicked off the firestorm that followed, [Mic then posted a piece] on Casey, wondering why the accusations against Casey weren’t making more headlines, particularly at a time when pussy-grabbing had become an international conversation. As the writer noted, “The allegations against Affleck are being treated as footnotes in a man's march to an Oscar nomination, while Parker's became a defining, front-page entertainment story. But the difference in treatment almost certainly isn't a coincidence — and it's absolutely worth talking about”. That also went largely unnoticed. Last week, however, The Daily Beast [published a deep dive] into the accusations against Casey made by two former female colleagues, Amanda White and Magdalena Gorka, with specific details about how they claim they were treated by him. Casey has always maintained his innocence and the case was settled out of court, but the complaints filed by White and Gorka are disturbing. And, as The Daily Beast’s writer, Amy Zimmerman says, “we have to ask why Affleck’s history continues to be hidden paragraphs deep, or swept under the rug entirely”, especially when Nate Parker’s certainly wasn’t while he too was supposed to be making a run for Oscar. [Slate picked up on] The Daily Beast’s challenge that same day, countering that even though, “it may feel to some rather trivial to put such serious issues in the context of Hollywood accolades… if the Oscars are providing the platform for these allegations to be openly and widely discussed, then so be it”. Also, as Amy Zimmerman concludes in her article, “by selectively choosing which stars to put through the ringer, the media becomes complicit in this cycle of easy forgiveness and celebrity-related amnesia”. Unfortunately, The Daily Beast article on Casey Affleck came out right before US Thanksgiving. Not many people were paying attention. CBS Sunday Morning spent all of 5 seconds on the sexual harassment allegations in the piece they aired yesterday. So, as usual, don’t worry. It looks like Casey Affleck will be just fine. According the Daily Mail’s source, supposedly, Will thinks his brother is “hot-headed” and that the Love Shield gesture was made with too much emotion, giving away too much information. Today, however, [Kensington Palace issued a statement] on behalf of William to undermine the Daily Mail’s claims: “The Duke of Cambridge absolutely understands the situation concerning privacy and supports the need for Prince Harry to support those closest to him.” Sources close to Will are saying that he and Harry [actually consulted extensively] before the Love Shield went out. Now I’m pretty sure it’s no secret that the Daily Mail is regularly full of sh-t and probably good for one bullsh-t royal story a week. But is Kensington Palace going to be releasing statements refuting the Daily Mail as often as the Daily Mail prints bullsh-t? Probably not. But we’ve seen over the last few weeks that Harry is pissed at the British tabloids and their sometimes racist and sexist coverage of his relationship. Which is why, as I’ve pointed out a few times, a lot of the good insider information about his situation with Meghan [is being reported in the US magazines instead]. What Will’s doing here is coming in behind his brother’s lead, not only to stay onside with Harry but also because it benefits him too and furthers his own agenda. The British papers have called Will and Kate lazy. They’ve criticised the time they spend on royal duty. They criticise how much access Will has restricted. But where Will and Kate are concerned, it’s kind of a different issue. Harry’s out there hustling for the family all the time. He’s out there hustling for the family right now in the Caribbean. Will and Kate, on the other hand, well, their workload and commitment have been called into question. And besides, it’s not like anybody’s throwing around the terms “Straight Outta Compton” and “dreadlocks” when Will and Kate are the focus. All of that, however, makes the Daily Mail’s recent report about Will not approving of Harry’s Love Shield even more suspect. Of course, on this issue, Will would be in with Harry. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, it’s Prince Charles [who wasn’t thrilled about Harry’s statement]. Charles, remember, was on tour when the Love Shield happened. And Charles has never enjoyed being overshadowed, not by his first wife, and not by sons. Here's Harry in St Georges, Grenada today. It would be a major shock if La La Land isn't a contender across all the major categories. Last week, a trailer for one of the final contenders in the Oscar race, Martin Scorsese's Silence, was released. As noted, any time Scorsese does anything, it's in the race. Which means [Andrew Garfield], the star of Silence, could show up at a few of these award show stops too. Which means we might be seeing them seeing each other. Even though they're not seeing each other anymore. Which is fine and shouldn't be awkward because we've already seen that they're still close, [more than just civil]. Did you watch VOGUE's 73 Questions with Emma Stone? Near the end she’s asked about the best gift she’s ever received. She says it’s a handmade rocking chair. Last year Andrew [told Vanity Fair] that while he was working on the film 99 Homes, he made a rocking chair. This was not a bad breakup. Even if they never make up, I love that their breakup happened, it seems, with so much love. Here’s Andrew at the Lakers game last yesterday and Emma in New York today promoting La La Land. Thanksgiving is over. So it’s now a two week push for everyone, pretty much in every industry, to blast out as much work as possible before things start slowing down for the Christmas holiday. At the movies, that means we’ll see heavy promotion from the stars who are featured in December releases and by far, the biggest December release is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. A new trailer just dropped in time for ticket sales. At 12:01am last night advance tickets became available for purchase and, like The Force Awakens last year, [Rogue One caused online mayhem], crashing several ticketing sites, including the biggest, Fandango: Due to an overwhelming amount of traffic, a wait room has been activated. Get [#RogueOne] tickets soon, you will. [ [pic.twitter.com/4XiYvTMRhT] — Fandango (@Fandango) [November 28, 2016] They’re now saying Rogue One could bring in between $100 - $140 million in its first weekend, certainly well behind The Force Awakens but still big enough to be the 2nd biggest opening in December. And no one is expecting it to equal The Force Awakens anyway since this storyline features entirely new characters. I’m getting pretty excited about the diversity of these characters though. This new trailer ends with two characters, played by Asian men, quipping at each other. To me that’s a big deal, being that this will be the biggest movie of 2016, and it’s selling itself with faces that Hollywood typically doesn’t believe are sellable. So, yes, I’ll be buying my Rogue One tickets some time today, as soon as my friends figure out their schedules in and around December 16. Are you seeing it on the first weekend? [Brandy] – yes, that Brandy – performed a medley of her greatest hits at last night’s [Soul Train Awards] where she took home the 2016 Lady of Soul award. You might not care. I didn’t know how much I cared until I saw Moesha in a single spotlight, majestically perched on a stool, defining #hairgoals and belting out her 1998 hit Almost Doesn’t Count. COME ON. When Ma$e came out in that all-white fur getup? I don’t know whether I should be proud or ashamed that I still know every word of his Top of the World verse. And watching Brandy slay choreography that I’m going to try to do in my bedroom for the next week straight is exactly what I needed on a gloomy Monday morning. It didn’t even matter that the Soul Train Awards set consisted of a sad lonely ladder and high-school theatre lighting. There are current pop stars half Brandy’s age who couldn’t pull off a performance as dynamic as this one—ahem, Ariana Grande – with all the pyrotechnics and backup dancers in the world. If you’re wondering why Monica didn’t make a surprise appearance to perform one of the greatest duets of all time, the Brandy/ Monica classic The Boy Is Mine, [apparently they still hate each other]. Fun fact: my friend Liz and I once gave a disastrous, drunken lip-sync performance of this song at one of Lainey’s birthday parties that I still have embarrassing flashbacks to. Anyway, Brandy and Monica gave us the seminal girl sh-t anthem so I’m down with the fact that there is still girl sh-t between them. For the sake of vintage gossip, I hope they never reconcile. Thank you for all the love... I'm really overjoyed and thankful for this moment in time! There is so much more I've been preparing to give!! — Brandy (@4everBrandy) [November 28, 2016] So, does that mean we’re going to get to hear what 2016 Brandy sounds like? The reason we haven’t heard new music from Brandy in years is the [ongoing legal dispute with her record label]. If you spotted in the performance, her backup dancers held up papers that read “BRANDY FREED” as the headline. Maybe the legal sh-t with her label is over? If it is, what does an updated version of Brandy sound like? I’d be totally OK if 2016 finished out its sh-tty year by gifting us with music nostalgia from all of my favourite artists from the late ‘90s/early 2000s. Naturally, I went down a Brandy Norwood YouTube hole while I was writing this. My Cinderella will always be the TV version with Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her fairy godmother so in the name of nostalgia, I’m going to leave you with this hilarious, epic and AMAZING clip from 1997. JLO has been single for 3 months now. I’m really proud of her. JLO spent Thanksgiving with family and friends trying to pretend like she has a bad angle. This, apparently, is what she looks like when she’s gorged herself on stuffing and potatoes and brussels sprouts and heavy cream and all the drinks. [Click here for the rest of the photos.] Posted at 3:24 PM [Amber Heard’s PSA] [Amber Heard] Friday November 25 was International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. [According to UN Women], “one in three women around the world experience violence in their lifetime, often in the hands of someone they know, love and trust. Of all women who were victims of homicide globally in 2012, almost half were killed by intimate partners or family members”. This year the [16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign] runs from November 25 to December 10, which is Human Rights Day, to raise awareness about the impact of violence against women, to let women know they are not alone, and to encourage everyone to rethink the way we talk and think about domestic violence and its victims, so to create more safe spaces for women to come forward. [Click here] for more information about the initiative. In support of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women, [Amanda de Cadenet] has launched a project called [Girl Gaze]. You’ll recall, Amanda was with [Amber Heard] after she filed for divorce from Johnny Depp and [very publicly supported Amber] when Amber’s allegations against Johnny were revealed. This weekend, Girl Gaze released a domestic violence PSA featuring an emotional Amber recalling her experience being abused “in the public arena”, how she was able to move forward, with help, how she was able to “speak up”. Obviously Amber doesn’t mention Johnny. And according to the terms of their settlement, she’s not allowed to. But she also doesn’t have to. It’s not like we don’t know who she’s talking about. It’s not like we don’t know who she was married to. In the end, they agreed to a $7 million settlement, which she immediately announced she’d be donating to the American Civil Liberties Union with focus on domestic violence and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. So this PSA, on top of all the photos we’ve seen, of her bruised face, of her cut lip, and the eyewitness statements, and the fact that she didn’t take any of his money, all of this is, well, all of it leads back to Johnny Depp. And he can’t say sh-t about it. The movie comes out December 14th. Also he did not get her pregnant. Thought I’d put that out there since there were some people trying to suspect that her last co-star was the father of her child. Marion has just come off the Allied press tour, spending a lot of time in the US answering questions for Brad Pitt, [doing most of the junket work for him], and now she’s promoting another release. With Assassin’s Creed though, since Michael is also a producer and isn’t embroiled in a scandal, he’ll probably be putting in a lot more facetime. [Click here] to watch him talk about his physical preparation for the movie. It’s not the most engaging interview. In fact, it’s pretty f-cking dull. But maybe that’s because I don’t know anything about this video game? Is that a problem though? Like, for Assassin’s Creed to be a theatrical success, it needs to attract interest from people who aren’t coming into it with advance knowledge of what the game is. I’ve watched the trailer a few times, and it’s never clear to me what’s happening. I think they’re sending him back in time to meet his ancestors and finish the job they couldn’t finish. So it’s a time travel movie then? If it’s not a time travel movie, please don’t yell at me that I’m stupid. Of course I’m stupid. This is my point. How not-stupid do you have to be to understand this movie if you know nothing about the game?
