[KQED Education Logo]( Johnny Cash tunning his guitar Country Music: A Film By Ken Burns Epic 8-Episode, 16-Hour Series Chronicles the Creation of Country Music Premieres Sunday, September 15, at 8pm on KQED 9 Step back in time and journey through the compelling history of a truly American art form with Ken Burns’ Country Music, premiering tonight at 8pm on KQED 9. Directed by Burns and produced with longtime collaborators Dayton Duncan and Julie Dunfey, Country Music chronicles the highs and lows of the evolution of the genre — from southern Appalachia’s songs of struggle, heartbreak and faith to the rollicking Western swing of Texas, California’s honky-tonks and Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. The series includes a wide range of country artists, including Merle Haggard, Rosanne Cash, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, Emmylou Harris, Kris Kristofferson and Naomi and Wynonna Judd, to name a few. The film features over 100 interviews and extensive archival footage, including rare and never-before-seen photos and footage of Jimmie Rodgers, Johnny Cash and others. Ken Burns' Country Music premieres tonight on KQED 9 with episodes airing Sundays through Wednesdays at 8pm through the series finale on September 25.
