What happens when you forget Christmas is tomorrow? ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Merry Christmas Eve! Every year, instead of gifts, Amanda and I like to pick a new place to travel to. “Experiences >> things” has been our motto. This year, we decided we were in the mood for deep snow. So we flew down to Park City, Utah. And we just got back! So here's a quick James Clear-inspired 3, 2, 1 round up of: - 3 pics from our trip - 2 underrated tweets that make me laugh - And 1 new "Copywriting Christmas Story" video I just released Let's dive in! 3 Pics From Our Trip In Park City, we went: - snowmobiling on a 12,000 acre ranch - tubing (with a bunch of little kids) - jumped in jacuzzi while it was 9 degrees outside - And drank way too much hot chocolate. Most of the time we spent there was just fun. But if I took away any "copywriting lessons," it would be the power of PRICE ANCHORING. Since Park City is a smaller town way up in the snowy mountains, transportation is already crazy. But while we were there, it got even crazier because of an unexpected snow storm. So one morning we'd scheduled an Uber to take us to a ranch where our snowmobile tour was happening. Now we were originally quoted $13 for the trip. But then, the driver cancelled last second. And there were no other Ubers/Lyfts available. So we started to panic. The concierge at the hotel jumped into to help us, frantically calling drivers. Finally, they got someone to pick up. ...Except it was for a private limo service that required a $199 deposit just to book the car. And then another few hundred for the ride! The concierge was like, "It'll probably be a grand round trip." To which we responded: "Uh... that's crazy!" "Can we just reschedule the snowmobile tour?" He said, “Unfortunately, no. The snowmobile touring company doesn’t allow for rescheduling.” We swallowed hard, realizing we were probably just going to have to eat the loss on the booking. But then another guy at the front desk said, “Wait - let me check one last thing.” He walked outside for a few minutes and returned with a huge smile on his face. He said, “Okay, I’ve got you an … umm … um driver. Are you okay with $70?” Amanda and I looked at each other and immediately said, “YES.” Even though we had no idea who this "mysterious driver" was and even though it was much more expensive than the ride we'd previously booked, we happily said yes. And this is the power of proper price anchoring. If you can make your potential customer feel the weight of a higher price ... and see the true value in paying it, one "price drop" is all you need to get a flood of yeses. In our case, it went a little like this... Everything You're Going To Get: One Ride To The Snowmobile Touring Company - ($2,000 value) Normal Price: $1,100 Special "Mystery Driver" Price: $70 US: TAKE OUR MONEY! 2 Underrated Tweets That Make Me Laugh I. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
