[image](=) It’s your worst nightmare. A demon that will sneak into your dreams of a multi-million dollar ecommerce brand and haunt the shit out of you. Until your cost of goods (COGS) breaks your business. The Aussie department of Agriculture reported bulk shipping costs rose 122% between Jan 2020 and April 2022. While shipping containers costs rose 117% over the same period. And if you didn’t notice the massive and destructive effect this was having on your business. It’s because you weren’t paying attention. Like most things in life, once the cat is out of the bag it usually doesn’t go back in. Bags suck. And little meow-meow was born to run free and kill birds. So don’t count on this essential cost of doing ecommerce to go down anytime soon. Instead of wishing and hoping, you need to account for it… You need to boost your Average Order Value (AOV) to not only cover it, and then some… But you need to be making so much money off every sale. That you can have a good hard laugh in the face of an Aus Postal employee without an ounce of remorse (not literally, psycho). Generally I recommend a 70% margin to the brands I work with. And if you don’t have this built into your business? You’re never going to scale your brand to multi-multi-million dollar levels of growth. Maybe you’ll be successful in a small niche. But you’re not gonna be Kylie’s Cosmetics... Or Gym Shark… This golden ecommerce principle is just one of the metrics I use when evaluating a business’s scaling potential. But I have five unit economic metrics inside my [Black Tiger system](=). Because even if you have 70% margin, that doesn’t mean you’re ready to play in the big leagues. A lack of one of these five fundamentals could be exactly what’s holding you back right now… On the other hand, tweaking just one or two of these metrics could be what it takes to set your brand on fire and unlock the kind of month-to-month growth that gets you to the AFR rich list. [Just go here to check them out and see if your brand is up to scratch.](=) Best, Sabri P.S. Unit economics, unit shmenomics. I know this crap can come off boring. But you don’t need to be a math PhD. to crush ecommerce. This is business basics! Which is why it’s sooo frustrating that so many brands can’t even meet these fundamental requirements. Don’t let that be you! This [Black Tiger]( overview explains everything. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
