Recipes that keep the baking marathon going [Free Shipping on orders over $80]( [logo]( Sunday Recipe Inspiration with Kye Batch 426 [Shortbread]( When it's bone-chillingly cold outside, the warmth of the oven calls. Even if you live somewhere that never gets close to frigid Vermont temperatures, you know the dark, chilly, wintery vibe I'm talking about. There are times when it just feels right to sip a hot drink and spend all day in the kitchen, baking. Lately, I've been determined to keep my baking marathon going as long as possible without leaving the house. The perfect way to do that? Rely on recipes that use five or fewer ingredients and warm you from the inside out. Take these ultra-buttery, melt-in-your-mouth [shortbread]( (above). Only four ingredients (if you omit the almond extract, like I do), and they still feel indulgent with their rich flavor. (Dunk them into coffee, tea, or frothy hot chocolate.) I've also been mixing up batch after batch of our [No-Knead Crusty White Bread]( dough, the three-ingredient wonder that can almost always be found somewhere in my fridge, ready to be baked off at a moment's notice. My mom adds a palm-full of mixed dried herbs to her weekly batch, and now I've caught on to that habit, too. The herbs work surprisingly well, even when the bread is paired with something sweet, like blueberry jam or orange marmalade. Herby, toasty, deliciousness ... all from just a few ingredients. Then there are [popovers](, an underrated accompaniment to almost any dish, and made from just five staple ingredients. I didn't have my first popover until recently, and now I'm trying to make up for lost time by making them every occasion I can. Luckily, they only require a few pantry staples, so they 're easy to bake on repeat. Promise me you'll eat at least one popover hot from the oven, complete with a pat of salted butter on top, before winter's end. (Don't let the lack of a popover pan stop you. If you don't have one, simply use a muffin pan instead.) Desserts can be just as satisfyingly simple too; take [meringues](, another winner that weighs in at only four ingredients. (Add a touch of espresso powder to boost the coffee flavor and balance sweetness.) Meringues' light-as-air texture and crunchy exterior is a miracle made from just egg whites, sugar, salt, and an acid (to stabilize the mixture) — ingredients I bet you have in your pantry. This final unassuming hero is at the top of my to-bake list: [Basque-Style Cheesecake](. With its almost burnt top, creamy, rich center, and mere five ingredients, I can barely wait to make it. I might even be willing to leave the house to get the cream cheese and cream ... but after that, you'll know where to find me: right next to the oven.
