Happy Juneteenth 🌟 for some it's a paid holiday

If you are a NY state or Federal Government employee here's what you need to know... Dear {NAME}, I am proud to have sponsored the law that made Juneteenth an official State holiday here in New York State, making us the 47th state to recognize this momentous day. Today commemorates June 19, 1865, when slaves living in Texas were told they were free, signaling the freedom of African-Americans and the start of our education and future achievements. Official celebrations began a year later mainly in Black churches and our country’s African American communities. Juneteenth is now a paid holiday for both NY state and Federal employees. Our legislation was followed by news that President Biden signed a bill to make Juneteenth a Federal holiday, stating that it is one of the greatest honors he will have as president. While Juneteenth is a time for celebration, it is also a time for continuous reflection, education and self-development. For today, we wish you a safe and joyful celebration.
