Coronavirus updates: U.S., states reaching record numbers of new cases, deaths

Across the nation, at least 35 states are seeing a continuous climb in new coronavirus cases from last week and a majority of them have issued face mask requirements. In Florida, cases have surged and ICUs at 56 hospitals have reached capacity. Arizona has been setting record daily death counts about once a week, including Tuesday, the same day the state reported its lowest-ever number of available ICU beds. A new model projects as many as 208,000 coronavirus deaths by Nov. 1, but that number drops to 163,000 if most Americans wear a face mask.
