Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nationâs top infectious disease doctor, urged Americans to follow measures meant to curb the spread of coronavirus during a Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing Tuesday. By Wednesday, at least 19 states paused reopening plans as the country’s daily case numbers continue to climb. As the holiday weekend looms, officials are warning that family gatherings â where households tend to let down their guards mixing with extended family â are another concern.
Hereâs what else you need to know about coronavirus in the U.S.:
- According to Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has surpassed 2.6 million infections. There have been at least 129,000 deaths.
- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that indoor dining will not resume next week as previously planned and will be postponed “until the facts change.”
- Cases in Florida have increased more than 50% from last week, and experts have warned the state could become the next epicenter, similar to New York in the spring.
