We must reform the Court. [Katie Porter for Senate]( Iâm deeply disappointed in the Supreme Courtâs decision to strike down Bidenâs student loan forgiveness plan, but hopeful to see that this fight isnât over. Whether you went to college or not, whether you took out loans or not, whether youâre a Republican or a Democrat: Iâve never met anyone who doesnât want a stronger, more stable economy. Canceling a portion of student loans is going to help us do that. It will offer a massive boost to our nationâs entire economy. This isnât just a âyoung personâ issue. There are more than one million borrowers who are sixty or olderâfolks who took out loans to help their kids or grandkids, or who went back to school later in life. In fact, 70% of garnered Social Security goes towards student loan interest and fees (yes, interest and fees, not even the loan itself). This decision came as the final blow after a week of Supreme Court decisions turning back the clock on equality and threatening the strength of our economy. This Supreme Court isnât just conservative, itâs corrupt. We should expand the court, enforce term limits, work to get politics out of our judicial system, and implement a judicial code of ethics.
