A new review found that ultra-processed foods can have a [serious impact on your health](. Here’s more. What are ultra-processed foods? They’re mostly made from substances derived from foods, like fats and starches. Examples include everything from ice cream and ham to even snacks we might consider healthy, like packaged cereals. What did the review find? An international team of researchers did a comprehensive analysis of studies involving nearly 10 million people. They found “convincing evidence” that a diet high in ultra-processed foods was associated with 32 health conditions, including cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
