The $95 billion foreign aid bill heads to the House. [For the best experience, read in browser.]( February 14, 2024 Good morning. We’re breaking down what’s in the $95 billion foreign aid package the Senate passed — and the uphill battle it’s facing in the House. Then, in our latest edition of Going Strong, we’ve got a [multitasking bodyweight routine]( that takes just 15 minutes. We’ll close out our relationship bootcamp with [expert tips for dealing with troubles in the bedroom]( and [the gadgets that can bring you closer](. Thanks for joining us — and happy Valentine's Day to all our valentines! Showdown After months of negotiating, the Senate finally passed an emergency aid package. Now, the bill needs to make it through the House of Representatives. Here’s what we know. Breaking it down: The $95 billion package would allot $60.1 billion in aid to Ukraine, bringing total U.S. investment to over $170 billion since the war began. $14.1 billion would go to Israel, and another $10 billion would go to humanitarian aid in conflict zones, including Gaza. The remaining $4.8 billion would go to Taiwan. A rocky road: Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has made it clear he's not a fan of the package. Echoing what Donald Trump — who’s been putting pressure on negotiations for weeks — has been saying, Johnson argued that the U.S. shouldn’t send out more foreign aid before dealing with border issues. Up next: For the bill to succeed without the speaker's support, a bipartisan coalition would have to perform what’s called a “discharge petition,” which would require them to gather signatures from a majority of the House. Then they could bypass the standard procedure that requires the speaker to call measures onto the floor.   More Stories [Tom Souzzi raises a triumphant fist in front of several US flags]( Tom Suozzi wins special election. (Getty Images) Politics: Democrat Tom Suozzi is celebrating his victory over Republican Mazi Pilip in the special election to replace the expelled former GOP Rep. George Santos in New York. Meanwhile, the House voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas by a very narrow margin a week after the GOP's failed attempt. Mayorkas is the first Cabinet Secretary to be impeached in nearly 150 years. Republicans say he acted unlawfully to fuel chaos at the southern border — a claim constitutional experts have disputed. Danger on the roads: One person is dead and five more are injured after a vehicle crashed into an emergency room in Austin, Texas last night. The driver was extracted from the car and given CPR, but died at the scene. This comes [alongside a report]( from the Washington Post suggesting that the 2022 car crash death of Tesla recruiter Hans von Ohain might be the first fatality resulting from Tesla's driver assistance software, Full Self-Driving. Health: An Alaska man has become the first known casualty of Alaskapox, a virus that mainly occurs in small mammals. The health department noted that the patient's immune system was compromised due to cancer treatment. Meanwhile, the CDC has pushed back on reports that it may amend its Covid advice to say that people no longer need to isolate once they've been fever-free for 24 hours. “It’s way too preliminary,” a source told NBC News.   Going Strong [Ryan Cooper in runners pose]( James Dimmock Overwhelmed by all the fitness trends and tech out there?
