Lloyd Austin will press Israeli officials to define the milestones they're aiming to reach before transitioning to the next phase of the war with Hamas. His visit comes alongside an investigation after Israelâs military admitted to accidentally killing three hostages in Gaza on Friday. Here's what we know. The Israel Defense Forces said troops opened fire on Yotam Haim, Samer Talalka, and Alon Shamriz after they emerged from a nearby building shirtless and bearing a makeshift white flag. Officials also acknowledged that their deaths were a violation of the rules of engagement. âThe shooting of the hostages was carried out contrary to the open-fire regulations,â said Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevy. âIt is forbidden to shoot at those who raise a white flag and seek to surrender.â The three men were among the more than 240 people abducted during Hamasâ unprecedented Oct. 7 attack on Israel, in response to which, Israel declared war on the militant group. Franke, whose channel 8 Passengers had 2.3 million subscribers before it was removed, was arrested along with her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt in August after one of her children escaped Hildebrandt's home. She's been held without bail since. Manhunt underway: A convicted sex offender is on the run after escaping from a Texas prison 60 miles south of Houston. Robert Yancy Jr., 39, was serving a life sentence for sexual abuse of a child, and was last seen at 3:38 pm local time yesterday. He made his getaway in a white Nissan Versa, reportedly accompanied by his mother. The public is advised not to approach him, and to contact law enforcement with any information as to his whereabouts. Weather watch: A major storm that battered Florida over the weekend is now heading up the East Coast. More than 32 million Americans are under a wind advisory as they brace for a possible "bomb cyclone" â effectively, a winter hurricane. There's been an unconfirmed report of a tornado near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the National Weather Service Charleston tweeted overnight that daily rainfall records were broken at all three of its climate sites on Sunday.
