Harrowing details: After interviewing hundreds of survivors, reviewing footage, and examining the bodies of victims, Israeli police have determined that “horrifying” acts of sexual violence were committed at a large scale on Oct. 7, according to a high-ranking officer at the U.N. panel. Hamas has denied this. Backlash: Israeli officials and many Jewish activists have faulted women’s rights groups and humanitarian agencies for not speaking out sooner about these allegations. U.N. Women, one of the groups under the microscope, did issue a rebuke of Hamas last week, but Israel’s ambassador to the U.N. called it “too little, too late.” Speaking out: The U.N. panel featured Sheryl Sandberg, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and Israeli security forces. Austin police stressed last night that they weren't aware the attacks were connected until the suspect was taken into custody. Resolution reached: SAG-AFTRA, the union representing actors in their negotiations with Hollywood studios, has ratified a new contract. The deal, sealed by a member vote of 78% to 22%, marks the end of a four-month strike that's paralyzed the entertainment industry. It includes a pay rise, plus protections around the use of AI. Union president Fran Drescher said she was "proud" of members for "locking in the gains" of their 118-day strike. Emergency measures: A pregnant woman from Texas may be the first adult to ask a court to authorize an abortion since Roe v Wade was overturned. Per the filing, Kate Cox, 31, is 20 weeks pregnant and has recently learned of a lethal fetal diagnosis that means carrying the baby to term could kill her.
