Harrowing details: After interviewing hundreds of survivors, reviewing footage, and examining the bodies of victims, Israeli police have determined that âhorrifyingâ acts of sexual violence were committed at a large scale on Oct. 7, according to a high-ranking officer at the U.N. panel. Hamas has denied this. Backlash: Israeli officials and many Jewish activists have faulted womenâs rights groups and humanitarian agencies for not speaking out sooner about these allegations. U.N. Women, one of the groups under the microscope, did issue a rebuke of Hamas last week, but Israelâs ambassador to the U.N. called it âtoo little, too late.â Speaking out: The U.N. panel featured Sheryl Sandberg, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, and Israeli security forces. They shared witness accounts of rape and genital mutilation, and expressed grave disappointment with the global response. âSilence is complicity, and in the face of terror, we cannot be quiet,â Sandberg said.

Addressing a Fox News town hall last night, Donald Trump refused to confirm whether he'd abuse power if he reclaims the White House. âDo you have any plans... to abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people?â moderator Sean Hannity asked. Trump initially sidestepped the question, but when pressed, replied: âExcept for day one." President Biden meanwhile has drawn fire for admitting he's "not sure" he'd be running in 2024 if Trump wasn't also making a bid. Breaking: A suspect is in custody after a spate of shootings in Texas yesterday left six people dead and three wounded. The male suspect, who's yet to be named, has been charged with capital murder, with further charges expected in due course. Two of those injured were police officers. Austin police stressed last night that they weren't aware the attacks were connected until the suspect was taken into custody. Resolution reached: SAG-AFTRA, the union representing actors in their negotiations with Hollywood studios, has ratified a new contract. The deal, sealed by a member vote of 78% to 22%, marks the end of a four-month strike that's paralyzed the entertainment industry. It includes a pay rise, plus protections around the use of AI. Union president Fran Drescher said she was "proud" of members for "locking in the gains" of their 118-day strike. Emergency measures: A pregnant woman from Texas may be the first adult to ask a court to authorize an abortion since Roe v Wade was overturned. Per the filing, Kate Cox, 31, is 20 weeks pregnant and has recently learned of a lethal fetal diagnosis that means carrying the baby to term could kill her. Cox has been to three emergency rooms in the last month "due to severe cramping and unidentifiable fluid leaks,â the suit says.
