Let’s begin.   In the News [An illustration of the U.S. Capitol building split in half]( Getty Images Power Shift Republican strategists are working behind the scenes on a plan that could come to fruition if the party wins the White House in 2024. First released in April, Project 2025 aims to centralize and expand presidential power at an unprecedented level. The blueprint aligns with Donald Trump’s campaign plan. Some of his GOP rivals, such as Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, have championed it too, but public policy experts are already sounding the alarm. “Project 2025 is the brainchild of American extremists who want to convert the nation from a democracy to an autocracy,” warns Mary Guy, a professor at the University of Colorado Denver's School of Public Affairs. We took a closer look at what’s in the plan and [the ways it could pose a threat to democracy.]( [READ MORE]( PASS THIS STORY ALONG: mailto:?subject=Check%20out%20this%20story%20from%20Wake-Up%20Call%21&body=https%3A%2F%2Fkatiecouric.com%2Fnews%2Fpolitics-and-policy%2Ftrump-project-2025%2F   Israel-Hamas Conflict As of yesterday, Israel has expanded its ground operations in Gaza to encompass the entire strip. Civilians have been warned to avoid certain areas, but they say there's no safe place to go. The IDF announced this morning that it's hit about 200 Hamas targets, and claimed to have killed a commander who led attacks on Israeli territory on October 7. The U.S. meanwhile is upping the pressure on Israel to protect civilians. During a call with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Qatar's Prime Minister reiterated the need for another ceasefire. As tensions around Gaza continue to rise, four attacks were launched on commercial vessels in the Red Sea on Sunday. The U.S. believes Iran-backed rebels in Yemen were responsible. We'll continue to keep you updated on this fast-moving situation.   More Stories [Smoke rising from a volcano]( Getty Images Fatal eruption : A volcano in Indonesia's West Sumatra province erupted yesterday, killing 11 climbers. Another 12 remain missing. Mount Marapi, which sits in the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the area's most active volcanoes, and evacuations have been taking place since it began spewing ash and smoke into the sky over the weekend. Entire villages nearby have been covered in ash. Charged: The inmate accused of stabbing Derek Chauvin 22 times has been charged with attempted murder. Chauvin, the former officer convicted in George Floyd's murder, was reportedly in the law library in the Tucson facility when 52-year-old John Turscak attacked him. Turscak apparently told corrections officers that he would have killed Chauvin had they not intervened. Sports: San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected from Sunday's game against Philadelphia after a scuffle on the sidelines about 5½ minutes into the third quarter. Greenlaw tackled Eagles receiver DeVonta Smith and received a penalty flag for unnecessary roughness. The Eagles' head of security, Dom DiSandro, rushed over and appeared to push Greenlaw away from Smith. Greenlaw's hand appeared to make contact with DiSandro's face, and both he and DiSandro were sent off.   Must-Reads [Person sitting with head on their knees in the middle of a maze shaped like a human head]( "Hidden Epidemic" A psychologist says fear of other peoples' opinions could be seriously stunting your potential.
