Authorities have advised thousands of locals to shelter in place and not to engage with the suspect, who’s believed to be “armed and dangerous.” [Here’s the latest](: The manhunt: Local, state, and federal officials are still tracking down Robert Card, who faces an arrest warrant for eight counts of murder. The suspected shooter’s car was discovered by a boat launch, and his boat is unaccounted for. The Coast Guard spent hours searching a nearby river, but found “nothing out of the ordinary.” Here's [more on the search](. Who is Robert Card? The 40-year-old is a longtime Army Reservist from the nearby town of Bowdoin. A bulletin issued after the attack said that Card had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks over the summer after “hearing voices” and threatening to “shoot up” a military base. A reversal: Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine has changed his stance on gun legislation following Wednesday's deadly attack. “I have opposed efforts to ban deadly weapons of war, like the assault rifle used to carry out this crime," he said Thursday. (Getty Images) Military action: The U.S. launched strikes on two Iranian-linked targets in Syria on Thursday, using two F-16 fighter jets. The action was in retaliation to rocket and drone attacks on U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that President Biden "directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will not tolerate such attacks and will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests." He added that the assaults are unrelated to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Israel-Hamas war: The Israel Defense Forces will execute more ground raids in Gaza over the coming days in preparation for the next stages of war, with strikes from air and sea continuing to target senior Hamas commanders. Families of hostages seized by Hamas have told the Israeli government that their "patience has run out," urging immediate action. The E.U. has pledged 50 million euros in humanitarian aid for Gaza, and called for a "humanitarian pause." Long-shot bid: Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips has announced he'll challenge President Biden for the Democratic nomination for president. Phillips, 54, has long called for a younger candidate to step up, and said Thursday that though he "adores" Biden as a Democrat, it's time to "pass the torch." "I will not be quiet in the face of numbers that are so clearly saying we're going to be facing an emergency next November," he added.
