My heart ached for his parents, Judy and Dennis, who had to take a long flight to Fort Collins, where they found their slight, blonde-headed son severely beaten and unconscious. They did their first interview with me six months after Matthew died, and we stayed in touch during the years since. Judy was a guest on my talk show, and I was honored to be included in Matthew’s memorial service at the National Cathedral in 2018. When they reached out to see if I could interview them on the 25th anniversary of Matthew’s death, I told them it would be a privilege.
