Read on!   In the News [GOP presidential candidates on debate stage]( Getty Images One Clear Winner Seven Republican presidential hopefuls took to the stage for the second GOP primary debate last night, but the victor was nowhere to be seen. [Here's what went down](. Running out the clock: With less than four months to go until the first ballots are cast, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, Mike Pence, Chris Christie, and Doug Burgum scrambled to chip away at Donald Trump's 40-point lead in the polls. Yet again, steering clear of the debate proved to be a winning strategy for the front runner. “The dynamic of this race remains the same, with Trump on top by far,” conservative commentator Monica Crowley said per the New York Times. Present and (sometimes) correct: There were a few standout moments, a few of which came courtesy of Haley. Haley took a swing at Ramaswamy, [who dominated the first debate](, telling him: “Every time I hear you, I feel a little bit dumber.” While DeSantis swerved questions on healthcare, she cut through, asking: “How can we be the best country in the world and have the most expensive health care?” Scott falsely accused Haley of spending $50,000 on curtains during her time as U.N. ambassador, while Christie attempted a dig at the absent Trump, saying: "We’re going to call you Donald Duck.” We've got more on all this, [plus how the candidates tackled sticky issues like abortion and the war in Ukraine, here](. Rubio had expected to be gone for just six months, but the discovery of a leak in the spacecraft delayed his return. Breaking: U.S. soldier Travis King arrived in Texas this morning after being released into American custody by North Korea. King crossed into North Korea without warning or authorization during a tour of the demilitarized zone between the heavily fortified state and South Korea back in July. A U.S. official told CNN that King is in "good spirits," but it's not yet clear whether he'll face disciplinary action. For now, the 23-year-old will enter a dedicated program designed to help former detainees reacclimatize to U.S. life. Suspect arrested: Police are set to announce the arrest of the man suspected of killing Baltimore tech entrepreneur Pava LaPere this week. Jason Billingsley, a convicted felon, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of the 26-year-old CEO and founder of EcoMap Technologies — plus charges in a separate attempted murder and rape earlier in September. “This individual will kill, and he will rape,” the police commissioner said. “He will do anything he can to cause harm.” Back to the bargaining table: Striking actors are set to resume negotiations with Hollywood's top studios next week. "Several executives" will be there, SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said in a joint statement last night. The move comes just days after the Writers Guild of America reached a tentative deal with TV and moviemakers following a monthslong impasse that paralyzed the entertainment industry.
