Three unmissable stories. [For the best experience, read in browser.]( September 19, 2023 We’ll start with some uplifting news, with [the medical innovation that can spot cancer sooner](. Then, we’ve got [tips for finding a good multivitamin]( and [the kind of vitamin you should be putting on your face](. Over in Hollywood, we’re clearing up [how the WGA strike is affecting your favorite talk shows]( — right after we explain the recent interviews that broke the internet.   In the News [Hasan Minhaj, Russell Brand, and Jann Wenner with headlines from articles about them]( Getty Images Explosive Exposés Usually, the internet has one main character. Over the weekend, it had three. Here’s a breakdown of the public figures who recently found themselves at the center of a firestorm. Russell Brand gets dropped: Let’s begin with the most serious. As we reported yesterday, four women came forward to British media outlets with [allegations of sexual assault and abuse]( against the comedian. Despite his denials, he’s now been fired by his management company, put on pause with his publishing company, and had a series of tour dates postponed. Jann Wenner faces the music: An interview with the New York Times had serious consequences for Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner, who caught heat for saying women and artists of color weren’t “articulate” enough to be profiled in his upcoming book. Wenner apologized for his “badly chosen words,” but he was nonetheless removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s board of directors as a result. Who’s getting the last laugh? Over on the “maybe unethical, but depends who you ask” side of the spectrum, in a profile for The New Yorker, comedian Hasan Minhaj admitted to embellishing stories for his act, like one anecdote where he said his daughter was hospitalized after being exposed to anthrax. It ignited age-old debates about how much fact is necessary in comedy. Minhaj defended his actions, saying “Every story in my style is built around a seed of truth,” and adding “The emotional truth is first. The factual truth is secondary.”   More Stories [People hugging]( U.S. citizens Siamak Namazi (2nd-L) and Morad Tahbaz (R) are welcomed upon disembarking from a Qatari jet in a prisoner swap Monday. (Getty Images) Coming home: Five Americans were freed by Iran yesterday as part of a rare prisoner swap that also included the transfer of $6 billion in Iranian funds. "Today, five innocent Americans who were imprisoned in Iran are finally coming home," President Biden said. The swap, which also saw five Iranians charged with committing crimes freed by the U.S., is a highly unusual example of cooperation between the nations, which have been at odds for more than four decades. Relations have soured even further since 2018, when former President Trump abandoned a key nuclear deal. Clamping down: Michigan State University has announced plans to fire head football coach Mel Tucker. Tucker has been suspended without pay since USA Today revealed that he was under investigation for the alleged sexual harassment of a rape survivor. The university's notice offers Tucker seven days to provide the school with reasons why he should not be terminated. The hunt is over: The remains of an F-35 fighter jet that went missing after a "mishap" forced its pilot to eject over South Carolina on Sunday have been discovered. The pilot was taken to a local medical center, and the "mishap is currently under investigation,” according to Captain Joe Leitner, the spokesperson for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. It's still unclear why the pilot was forced to leave the aircraft — and why the jet debris took so long to find. Looking ahead: Donald Trump plans to skip the second Republican primary debate and instead head to Detroit to address an audience of plumbers, pipe-fitters, electricians, and autoworkers, the New York Times reports. Trump's decision to court the attention of autoworkers, who as of this morning remain on strike, indicates that he's already anticipating a contest with President Biden. Trump's not explicitly lent his support to the workers' demands — and has been critical of union leadership — but seems keen to cast himself as a man of the people.   Must-Reads [The Talk cast]( Cut the Cameras There's been a lot of drama surrounding talk shows and how they're dealing with the WGA strikes.
