Hereâs the latest on this historic showdown: Where the talks stand: Ford and GM have both offered to give employees 20% raises over four years. Stellantis, which includes Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram, dangled a 21% bump. The unionâs still demanding a 40% pay increase, and UAW president Shawn Fain called the deals âa no-go.â Where have workers walked out? About 12,700 workers (8% of the union) went on strike Friday at a Ford plant in Wayne, Michigan; a GM plant in Wentzville, Missouri; and a Stellantis plant in Toledo. Itâs the first time in history the UAW has gone on strike against the Big Three automakers all at once. The ripple effects have already been felt. Ford and GM have announced hundreds of temporary layoffs because of production issues. Meanwhile, President Biden has dispatched a team to Detroit to bring an end to the walkouts. Weâll have more to come on this high-stakes fight, so stay tuned.
