Why are fans throwing stuff at concerts? [For the best experience, read in browser.]( [Sponsored by Justin]( August 1, 2023 Whatâs with people throwing stuff at musicians on stage? Weâre unpacking [whatâs behind this disturbing trend]( that could ruin concerts for everybody. In the News [image collage of Cardi B, Pink, and Kelsea Ballerini]( (Getty Images/KCM) Bad Behavior Over the weekend, a fan threw a drink at Cardi B while she was performing, and in response, Cardi hurled her microphone into the crowd. This is just the latest in an alarming new trend of fans throwing objects at artists during concerts. Hereâs [what we know about this strange pattern](. Flying objects: Earlier this summer, singer Bebe Rexha was struck in the face by an iPhone while performing, which gave her a black eye. Kelsea Ballerini, Harry Styles, and Pink have all been forced to dodge projectiles while on stage â including, in Pinkâs case, an actual bag of human ashes. Getting worse: This trend only seems to be growing. William Van Orsdel, Head of Growth at Breakaway music festival, tells us: âWe're unfortunately seeing it almost weekly on social media.â Experts have a few guesses as to why this is happening. One is that pandemic lockdowns changed behavioral norms. âPeople feel like they're invisible in a crowd,â Van Orsdel says. Weâve got more on [how social media could be behind this lack of decorum]( and what could happen to live events if it continues. A goal from Portugal would have destroyed the U.S. team's chances â an incredibly precarious position for the defending champions. The U.S. will likely have to face the formidable Swedish team in the next round. Education: Florida may become the first state to accept a CLT â or "Classical Learning Test" in lieu of the SAT and ACT. The CLT, which is popular among Christian schools and right-wing groups, was âdevised to follow the great classical and Christian tradition," and emphasizes Western culture, morality, and classical literature. The Florida Board of Governors will vote this month on whether to accept the CLT for college admissions. Crime: An American woman has been charged with conspiring to kill her husband just months after the couple filed for divorce. Per CNN, Lindsay Shiver, 36, was arrested in the Bahamas after she and Bahamian natives Terrance Adrian Bethel, 28, and Farron Newbold Jr., 29, planned to kill her husband Robert Shiver. The police stumbled on the plot when sinister messages were discovered on a phone recovered during a separate investigation. Health: Just one drink per day can increase your systolic blood pressure â aka, the top number when your blood pressure is taken (so, 120 in "120 over 80") â according to a new study. While both numbers are important, high systolic blood pressure is linked to a greater risk of stroke and heart disease. "We found no beneficial effects in adults who drank a low level of alcohol compared to those who did not drink alcohol,â study author Dr. Marco Vinceti said. In Conversation There's a lot to digest in the current state of the race for the Republican presidential nomination: Trump is up (despite multiple indictments and investigations), DeSantis is down (after being seen as the most obvious alternative), and the rest of the field is struggling to break through the noise. To help understand it all, [I checked in with Charlie Sykes](, a co-founder and editor-at-large of The Bulwark, and our conversation is not to be missed.
