Read on…   In the News [Kamala Harris]( Getty Images A United Front Vice President Kamala Harris is now backed by far more than the 1,976 pledged delegates necessary to secure the Democratic presidential nomination. Here’s more on that — [and how Trump and his allies are reacting.]( Harris responded to the news by tweeting: "Over the next few months, I'll be traveling across the country talking to Americans about everything on the line. I fully intend to unite our party and our nation, and defeat Donald Trump." The Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue announced that she's raised more than $100 million since Sunday. Democratic super PAC Future Forward said it's secured $150 million in new commitments since President Biden dropped out. This turn of events may force Republicans to rethink their strategy. “Republicans are scrambling at the moment,” politics professor Sara Sadhwani told us. “Kamala Harris brings renewed energy, her diverse background will help her to mobilize a broad array of Americans to the polls, and her experience as a prosecutor will be a stark contrast to Donald Trump’s felony convictions.” Three other GOP strategists had a very different take. During Monday's contentious hearing about the attempted Trump assassination, Cheatle told the House Oversight Committee that the Secret Service had been notified “between two and five times” about a suspicious person at the rally — but the gunman was only viewed as a threat “seconds before the gunfire started.” The beleaguered director declined to provide a timeline of the shooting or say how she'll ensure such an incident isn't repeated, citing an ongoing FBI investigation. She estimated it would take 60 days for the Secret Service to complete its investigation, which Rep. Five dual-American citizens may still be alive there. He's also set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on Thursday — if he's sufficiently recovered from Covid. Newly-released body camera footage reveals the moments before Sonya Massey, a Black woman, was shot dead by deputies she'd called for help. The 36-year-old, who lived in Springfield, Illinois, had called 911 because she thought there was a prowler outside. Donald Trump has asked a New York appeals court to drop or reduce the $454 million penalty he received in his civil fraud trial, on the grounds that it's unconstitutional. At the time, New York AG Letitia James, who prosecuted the case, said the verdict proved “there cannot be different rules for different people in this country.”   In Conversation I'm a huge fan of David Frum, the political commentator, writer at The Atlantic, and former speechwriter for President George W. Bush. Frum is a conservative Republican who's been trying to find his way amidst Trumpism.
