It's the first storm of this Atlantic hurricane season to make landfall in the U.S. Here's the latest. Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, just before dawn. As of 4:30 am ET, more than 84,000 Texans were already without power. The National Hurricane Center says "sustained tropical storm-force winds and hurricane-force wind gusts have already been reported along the coast," and are expected to spread inland. The storm is expected to weaken significantly as it approaches Houston. However, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has urged residents to take the threat extremely seriously, and do everything in their power to protect themselves. Beryl killed at least nine people in the Caribbean last week, and smashed through Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. This season is expected to be especially brutal, with the National Weather Service predicting 17-25 named Atlantic storms. Experts are pointing the finger at climate change, which has led to far warmer oceans.   More Stories [People are seen celebrating on the statue of Marianne on the Place de la Republique.]( Excited Parisians celebrate the election result.
