(Getty Imags) Eyes on Israel Iran launched a massive aerial attack against Israel over the weekend. As Israeli leaders weigh a response, hereâs [what we know about the developing situation](. What happened? Late Saturday, Iran fired more than 300 drones and missiles into Israel, according to the IDF. U.S. forces and other allies, including the U.K. and France, helped Israel repel 99% of them. Israel has vowed to "exact a price" from Iran for the attack. Why did Iran attack? Iranian state media said the attack was in response to a deadly Israeli strike on one of its compounds in Syria earlier this month. While the two countries have been at odds for decades, this marks the first time Iran has directly attacked Israel from Iranian territory. Howâs the U.S. responding? The White House warned Israel not to escalate the situation any further, though it plans to continue to help Israel defend itself. House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday he will try to advance wartime aid for Israel this week.
