A few days later, 10 people were killed in a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. In total, the attack in Boulder was the seventh mass shooting in as many days in our country. My heart goes out to the families of the victims and their communities as they deal with these unspeakable tragedies. These news alerts are just as hard to stomach today as they were after Sandy Hook, Parkland, Las Vegas, the Pulse nightclub, and so many other mass shootings. And in response to tragedy after tragedy, we've taken no significant action to curb the violence in over 25 years here in the United States. It's shameful. The events of this past week serve as a solemn reminder of our duty – as Americans and as policymakers – to do everything we can to make our communities safer. Violent tragedies like those in Atlanta and Boulder CAN be prevented. The House passed two bills earlier this month to expand background checks and save lives across the country. And I’m calling for the Assault Weapons Ban to be brought up for a vote ASAP. [But now we need the Senate to act. Will you add your name here to demand the Senate pass universal background checks and send this legislation to Joe Biden’s desk for his signature?]( No matter how difficult it might be, we cannot become jaded by years of inaction. There are too many lives at stake. We will fight until we can give Americans the safety and security they deserve.
