Happy Thursday! Today we're throwing it back — starting with a look at Kara when she was a 1st-grade student at North Country Elementary: [Photo of Kara in 1st grade]( Kara was born and raised in Suffolk County. Her mom was a public school teacher and her dad was a volunteer firefighter — so she learned early on the value of serving your community. [Kara visiting the fire station]( Her family instilled in her the importance of hard work. As a teenager, Kara mowed lawns, shoveled driveways, cleaned rooms, and waitressed at the local Three Village Inn. She also worked at McDonald's, Macy's, and even Newsday, delivering papers on her bicycle. And even with all that, she still found time for school spirit. [Kara showing up to spirit week]( Kara also knows a thing or two about persevering through hardships. As a senior in college, she faced an unplanned, at-risk pregnancy — but she ended up graduating with distinction while caring for her new baby girl, Karina. In the years to follow there were times when, raising Karina as a single mom, Kara relied on food stamps and waitressing tips to get by. [Kara with Karina]( These are the lessons and experiences that have guided Kara into a life of public service — first becoming a social worker then a county legislator — and they will shape the change she'll fight for in Washington. But we need your help to write the next chapter in this story — for Kara and the 1st District. [We need to build up our resources to win the primary in June and take on the Republican money machine in November. Can you chip in $5 or anything you can to help us build a winning campaign right now?]( [DONATE]( — Team Hahn Kara Hahn is a lifelong Long Islander, social worker, county legislator, and candidate for Congress in NY-01. This open seat is a must win for Democrats to defend our majority in the House and continue driving progress in America, but we can't do it without your help.
