[Kaggle] Hi {NAME}, Essay writing is a key method for assessing student learning and performance, yet it is time-consuming for educators when it comes to manual grading. To address this challenge, Automated Writing Evaluation (AWE) systems offer students timely feedback. However, AWEs aren't widely available to students or educators due to cost constraints. Previous attempts to develop open-source AWEs have been limited by small datasets lacking national diversity or focusing solely on common essay formats. In this competition, you’ll train a model to score student essays. You’ll work with the largest open-source dataset to assess student writing that improves upon the Automated Student Assessment Prize (ASAP) 2012 competition. Total Prizes: $50,000 Entry Deadline: June 25, 2024 [Learn More]( Your participation could reduce the high expense and time required to hand-grade essays, especially in underserved communities. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
