New song lessons, exciting promos, and... the chance to win a unique instrument! July 2023 News Howd

New song lessons, exciting promos, and... the chance to win a (super) unique instrument! July 2023 News Howdy guitar friend, Hope you're enjoying Summer (or Winter!) and spending quality time with your guitar, family, and friends! It's been busy as always but exciting as well. :) I'm just back from a special Workshop in Italy and sorting the schedule for an [Acoustic & Electric Jam Week in the United Kingdom]( (few spots left!). Workshops are great fun! I also put [new song lessons]( out, as usual - including one I got very special help from the incredible Mark Knopfler. He was so generous with me - more on that is below. :) You'll be happy to know that you can [get a Gray Guitar just like mine for only £5](. Yep, as part of the JustinGuitar 20 Years Celebration, I asked Tom Gray to build a replica of my (pink!) Gray Guitar for a fun raffle, and you can be the lucky winner of this unique instrument. Ok! Let's get into this month's menu because we have quite a few things to talk about - more life stuff at the end of this newsletter, as always. Sneak peek: I got my blue belt! Yey! July Highlights - New Song Lessons: and help from Mark Knopfler! - Raffle: Win a special Gray Guitar. - Have a second? Please, review JustinGuitar! - Guitar Pro: 20% Off + Extra Discount. :) - App: New Practice Page + Sale! - Workshops: Join Me in the UK! - Merch: Do you agree with Einstein? - Life Stuff... [Flowers - Miley Cyrus]( Flowers by Miley Cyrus is a perfect song for beginners! You only need open chords and 8th Note Strumming to play it! But we'll go further and also explore the original rhythm pattern, dynamics, and some quirks in the chorus that you might not have noticed. ;) [She's Electric - Oasis]( What an absolute belter - so much fun to play! This acoustic version tutorial combines the three original layers and sounds authentic. There's much to explore: barre chords, sus chords, extensions, movable shapes, drone chords, the shuffle feel, and more. [Redbud Tree - Mark Knopfler]( I wasn't sure if the acoustic guitar was played in the open position or with a capo on the 5th fret, but Mark Knopfler was very generous and emailed me the secrets to get Redbud Tree right. You won't find these details anywhere else but in this lesson! :) [Better Together - Jack Johnson]( This song is perfect for working on your barre chords - you'll need them for the entire song. But the key to nailing it and making it sound authentic is the strumming. We'll pick the intro and strum the chords with our fingers to capture the authentic vibe. :) Chords/lyrics + tabs for all my song lessons are available with [JustinGuitarTabs](. :) [View All Songs]( Win a Gray Guitar just like mine, made especially for you! 🔥 After the success of my last raffle for the Suhr Alt T guitar, which funded the free Strumming Machine and allowed me to donate £2,500 to the Clean Air Task Force and another £2,500 to the Action for Happiness, it's time for another exciting raffle! This time, you can [win a (pink!) Gray Guitar]( made by Tom Gray in the United Kingdom. This guitar has some unique features, including a humbucker that can be split, a regular single-coil pickup, and a Filter Tron at the front. It also has a fixed bridge, locking tuners, and a rounded neck for easy playing. The only difference between our instruments is that my guitar has my daughter's name on its neck, while yours will have "Justin20" on the headstock. :) This raffle is part of the JustinGuitar 20 Years Celebration and will help me fund some fun actions for our celebration - coming in August - and new site development! I'll let you know more about that soon. :) Each ticket costs £5, and you can buy as many tickets as you wish! If you buy 4 tickets, you will get one for free - so there is an extra chance to win. :) The draw closes on August 25, and we'll announce the winner on the same day. Thanks for your support, and good luck! [Enter the Raffle!]( 🙏You can also support my free content by donating directly. Please visit [this page]( if you can! Have a few minutes to support my work? If this affected one of your favorite songs, please know I hear you and feel your frustration. :( You can read more about this [here](. Some Spots Are Still Available for the Acoustic & Electric Band Jam Workshop! In September, we head to the Surrey Hills (England) for a very special [Acoustic & Electric Classics Band Jam Workshop]( We'll learn a lot and jam with a full band featuring my friends and co-teachers, Dave Marks and Pete Whittard. This workshop is all-in-one: we'll be playing acoustic and electric guitars, vocal essentials, and jam all-time classic songs! The classes are perfect for Advancing Beginners and Intermediate players - you will need barre chords! We'll all sing, strum the acoustic, shake some eggs, and rock on the electric. Lots of fun ahead! But if you want to join, register now - our workshops always have a low number cap (22 for this one!), so we can guarantee all students will get quality time with the teachers and the band! [Register Your Interest]( Teaching online is great, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about that in-person experience that can't be beaten. That's why I've been keeping my workshops going strong for the past few decades, and let me tell you, they are a ton of fun! I just came back from a great week in Italy, where the participants are more like friends than students and much laughter was had! 💡 If you cannot join September's workshop, [Join the Waiting List]( You'll be the first one to know a new event is coming up. :) No one can argue with Einstein, right? If you always need more guitars, this design perfectly explains why you *must* buy more guitars! The calculation is simple: the optimal number of guitars to own is your current number of guitars plus 1! This equation is Einstein-tested and approved. Available as [t-shirt,]( [women's t-shirts]( [unisex hoodies]( and [mugs]( - all products in this collection have 10% off during the entire month! :) No code is required - the discount will apply on the checkout! 👉 Extra tip: use code FREESHIP in orders over $55 (exclusions may apply.) [Shop Now!]( Life Stuff... Oh man I need a holiday! Been busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking competition the last month. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but looking forward to some time off next month! Just after the last newsletter I received my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I do find it amusing that at my age a bit of coloured cloth can be important, but the value comes from the amount of effort that one must put in to get it! The journey feels very similar to learning guitar - my equivalent place in BJJ is I have started playing barre chords :) The week after my grading I had another car racing day at Palmer Sports. Didn’t get around much faster than on previous visits, but still incredible fun with a bunch of great mates, including my BJJ instructor Jay, and my co-teacher Pete! Then it was off to Italy for an experimental small group band workshop which went great and was a lot of fun. It was only open for select students who had been on multiple workshops in the past and had the appropriate skillset, but I hope this kind of workshop will become a regular fixture in my calendar; all band jamming and no lessons! Stocked up on many kilos of Parmesan cheese too. Yum! Last week I had Laser Eye Surgery on one of my eyes and that’s been super cool. Writing this newsletter without glasses on feels great! Surprisingly fast and totally painless; big thanks to Optegra for taking care of me. Still getting used to it a bit, one eye for reading and one for long distance, but incredible what they can do eh! But now what to do with all those cool glasses I bought ;) OK, I better get to work, got a ton of things to do and film this week, and the school holidays start tomorrow… so will have more to do and even less time to do it in! Yay. 📺 What I'm watching... - [Ted Lasso]( - You know when all your friends tell you about a show, but the premise of the show just doesn’t appeal… but then you watch it and like, now I get it. Well that. What a fantastic series that was, full of fascinating moral conundrums, and the way many problems are handled are mini life lessons. Amazing. Go watch it now! - [Black Mirror]( - The polar opposite of Ted Lasso, haha! But I love this series so much. Incredible, but also disturbing. 📚 What I'm reading... - Unfortunately, I had no time this month to finish a book :( but started some interesting ones - will report back next month! 🎶 What I'm listening to... - [Samuel Jack - The Gold & The Glory]( - so proud of my friend Samuel who just released his first full-length album. I’ve worked with him a bunch of the years, playing some guitar and some writing, though not been involved with this album! Great record - go give it a listen! - [Radiohead]( - There have been a few bands over the years that I liked, but for some reason took years to really appreciate. And just having one with Radiohead. I always thought they were cool but somehow it hadn’t connected on a deep level until last week and now I’m obsessed. Weird. But wow, I was missing out, but what a treasure trove to now sift through… Have a great month y’all :) J. [Explore JustinGuitar]( Copyright © 2023 Justin Guitar Ltd, All rights reserved.
